so today i was driving and stopped at a wendys. i went in and came out and when i got into my car, the spedo didnt work and the gas gauge is eratic. I had this same problem before and it ended up being the vehicle speed sensor. Although, my friend fixed it for me so im not exactly sure of the location, any help? also, could it be another problem? any ideas are great, thanks.

The speed sensor is on the right (passenger) side of the block under your oil filter. You have to move the coolant tank to see it.
You'll prolly need a flashlight.

Some people prefer accessing it from under the car

Hernandez is referring to the "Engine Speed Sensor" AKA the RPM sensor. The "Vehicle Speed Sensor" or VSS is located on the transmission. It is positioned just above the Front Left axle flange.

I'm not familiar with your symptoms here, just telling you where the sensor is at. Good Luck.

You may have a couple of issues:
1) A bad VSS - which is why your speedo doesn't work.
2) A bad fuel sending unit - actually fairly common, which is why your tank sometimes reports correctly and sometimes doesn't.

This also sounds similar to a bad ignition switch. The symptoms will be intermittent and gradually get worse. Eventually your key may even become stuck/lodged in the lock cylinder. Here is a good DIY that will show you what is going on (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/335180-DIY-B5-A4-Ignition-Switch-Replacement) if you decide that might be your problem. Have a search for "bad ignition switch" and you'll see similar issues. Additional symptoms of a bad/failing ignition switch include erratic headlight and dash light behavior. Did your tach work?
