So I'm not entirely new to Audi's, but was advised by some other Audi owners to post here and see which of these two A4's the masses think is a better buy.

The first is a 96 2.8V6, 73K miles, Sport Package, nicely loaded, 5 spd...in the range of $6500
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4530494622&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

The other is a 98 2.8V6, 112K miles, newer tires, 4spd auto, for around $7000
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4530059371&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT

So is the 30V 98 motor with higher mileage a better buy than the 96 12V? What do you all think? Any better suggestions for right in the 5-7K range?

if you are on a tight budget an audi is NOT the car to get as im sure it will see the shop plenty and empty your wallet often. Im too lazy too read the descriptions to see if the TB has been done in either car, but either way I would take care of that immediatly. 73k w/o a TB is pushing it, break it and you now have a 3k+ dollar job. either way, i would take the 96. insurance will be cheaper, less miles mean if you hate your car you will easily be able to sell it for what you bought it for. what it comes down to bro, do you want to drive 5 speed or auto?!?! its really that simple. thats an easy decision for me if i had to make it. 5 SPEED!

TB = timing belt in this case. And if it breaks its 3k to get the heads fixed. Not for the job.

Personally I would get the 12v if you aren't going to mod it power wise. It's a solid motor and I wouldn't buy and auto.

at a shop 800-1200. Yourself 100-250 and 8hrs of easy time consuming work.
