Never done the A4 but did a few MK4 VW's back in the day.. pretty straight forward, nothing too difficult..

Does your window bind and then roll back down and bind some more as if the child safety mechanism kicks in????

I had my passenger side go, had the dealer replace it. Then about 2 months later I had my driver's side go. Being pretty fed up, I decided to replace it myself. I am by no means a mechanic but I know how to turn a wrench. It wasn't hard at all. There is a useful DIY (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/221875-DIY-B6-A4-Window-Regulator-amp-Motor-Replacement)on here.
Overall, I would say it is a 6 out of 10 on the difficulty level and it took me about 2 hours. If you have any Qs, feel free to shoot me a PM.

^^ I replaced mine using the DIY posted above and it was a breeze. The instructions are spot on and if you follow them you should have no problems. I took my time since I had never done this before and took me about 2-2.5 hours. Saved some money too.

Lol....I cant live without having the driver side window roll down.... Now Is it the carrier or is it the regulator???? After reading one of the DIY's it soulds like it could be the carrier???? The regulator is the motor right???

P.S. I do have the E-Bahn manual which i've been reading...

Thanks all for your replies,

Not sure what the carrier is, maybe the railing? Anyways, the regulator and motor are two different parts. You know its your regulator if you hear a 'crunching' sound when trying to roll window up/down.

I actually just ordered a new window regulator. Sounds like it's pretty straight forward.

From someone who has replaced this, could you give us any tips or things you would've done differently?

Thanks.

Yea. But just think what the dealership would charge you plus labor. That's weird. I got mine from genuine for $105.

really?!?!?! i remember paying like 113, unless that jacked up the prices recently. I had to replace my passenger side regulator. Same symptoms you're experiencing. its very easy. use the DIY above, its pretty much the same as the driver side. Bolt locations are pretty much in the same place.

took me 1 hour total, including a beer break...lol.

Yea it showed me the worng one but when I used the part # from mine it came to the one that was 106 the dealer wants 148 I may have to go to dealer as I dont have the time to wait for it to get here by mail.....

When I took mine apart the cable casing was all mangled and broken....... I know I can fix it with the same kind of cable as they use on Mt. Bike brakes and whatnot.....

Both the passenger and the driver window went out within a month of each other. Dealer replaced both under warranty...good luck fixing yours.

You can do it but it it kind of a pain. The window gets held to the frame with tape while you pull everything apart. Use a headlamp and add some soundproofing while you have the door cards off! Whoo Hoo!
