I'm looking for a kit to do my own carbon fiber wrap, i dont want to make a mold or anything, i just want to wrap it in real carbon fiber and do all the epoxy and shit myself.

I want something very similar to this

http://www.carbonmods.co.uk/Products/Carbon-Fibre-Skinning-Starter-Kit---Large__CMCFSK1000.aspx

but thats in the UK and the shipping is expensive, not to mention that kit is pretty expensive in itself. I can't find a US dealer for the life of me, so if you guys know of any good starter kits or a place where i can get everything in one shipping order, thatd be awesome.

BTW, i just plan on wrapping my door pillars in some real carbon fiber, and maybe if I get good, I might try to do my interior trim like ocarbon does, otherwise I'll stick to my 3m di-noc fake carbon fiber wrap stuff for now.

Sorry to thread jack, but I don't really get this carbon fiber stuff. Whether you wrap it in real CF or you use vinyl, what is the difference? It's still the original part just wrapped in something, right? So whether it's a wrapped trim piece in vinyl or real CF, it's still not really a CF trim piece, right?

I mean, isn't the whole point of carbon fiber to be really strong and yet light weight? So if you wrap something in CF, that means you are adding more weight, and are therefore merely doing it for looks.

Your right, im pretty much doing it for looks. Now if you wrap it correctly in real cabon fiber, it will make the part much stronger but wont make it any lighter, given the fiber is very light so it wont add much weight either. Real carbon fiber looks much different than the vinyl wrap stuff and the real carbon fiber adds much more strength while the vinyl wrap is pretty much just a sticker.

I don't think the whole point is to make things lighter, yet stronger. When you think about it, Audi uses Carbon fiber on their trim pieces for the S4 and RS4. I'm pretty sure this wasn't done to make the car more light weight due to the fact that trim pieces only weigh a few ounces. It was done to make the car more stylish and aggressive, which is what a lot of Audi owners like doing.

I'm debating on doing thisnto my roof. It looks pretty cool IMO. Can't decide matte black, gloss black, or a carbon fiber wrap. And guys this stuff doesn't make anything stronger. The wraps are jut designs on the wrap. Actualy carbon fiber wrap would cost waaaaaaay more than the 200 bucks a roll that these things are going for. My good friend don who tinted my car would charge me 350 bucks to have my roof done in carbon fiber wrapping. Price out a actualy carbon fiber roof for a m3. Actually, look at oem trim pieces for a rs4. All the wrap is doing is giving you added style for minimal costs and protecting the paint under the sera you re wrapping. I mean you can do a entire car matte black for 2k. And you get your car back in two days. Price outran actual mstte black paint job. Crazy money.

pretty sure the saving weight thing doesn;t apply when all the trime pieces laid out prolly dont even add up to 2 lbs

You can buy the epoxy resin, hardener & carbon fibre fabric on eBay - I did so, even though I could have bought a kit from Carbonmods.co.uk - it worked out cheaper too, though perhaps not quite as "easy" as the epoxy they supply is a different ratio to what I got, hence mine ended up not curing properly [:(]

You can buy epoxy from automotive hardware suppliers too. It needs to be clear when it sets - none of that red stuff you would use for fibreglass.

It's quite a difficult material to work with, so take your time & be patient!
