Hi mate yes they are genuine rs4 wheels they do look small in pics,, they have the correct tyres the p-zeros correct size they comw out the factory, once ive lowered it on the coilovers and spacered all wheels flush with the arches that should to the trick.
Nothing planned engine wise going to keep it as it is..

Hiya they ae the 9 x 19 with the ET : 29 offset with 25mm spacers to rear
Is that the reason why only 5mm spacers looks like it brought the wheel out so far?
I am ET 32 on my stock s-line wheels and just bought 10mm for my rears and plan on moving the 8mm up to the front (I hope 8mm up front for me wont be to much?)

ok then ,it must be the angle of the photo . Is that AWD or not? if it is then having different spacers front and back may affect the central differential or steering.

I'm running 15mm in the rear and 8mm in the front. Running mis-matched spacers does nothing to negatively affect the differential. If he was running different size wheels, different profile tires, etc... that'd be a different story.

Stupid question here, but by the time you have spent this much time and effort, why not just buy an S4? Seems like a bit of a pointless exercise, but then again I'm not into modding, so I just don't understand the draw in making a sheep in wolfs clothing!

So in that case, the similar project of my friend Dimitris in Greece, a B7 RS4 oem look with 550-600hp isn't ,for you, a waste of money instead, a Value-For-Money Project ?
I love the second project more, obviously, but they both come from the love to being different and modding as a hobby. Some spent on looks only, some others, on both looks and engine if possible, like me.
But hey, if you dont like a project just say it normally, no reason for expressions, like Fail, etc etc.
Do they add something, or make something out of that ugly criticism?

I never have nor ever would say Dimitris project is a failure - I said this a failure cause to be honest - when i go into a thread that says Audi RS4 project I would expect to see something that would be comparable to an RS4 - not a mutilated a4 w/ decent body work - so yes, to me this is a huge failure and waste of money - i highly doubt im the only 1 who feels this way - once again this is my opinion..

Seeing a thread named RS4 in the B7 Section, should make it obvious it is not an RS4 in the first place, and most likely not something easily compared.

If you ever want to add performance, there are always bigger turbos. I say stick to the car's looks and keep reliability for now! You will enjoy her enough (for a while) with a simple software chip.

what was necessary for altering it to a wide-body? Did you have your oem fenders stretched, or replaced? Also, other than spacers, what else is necessary for a full wide body conversion?
digitalAUDI
04-12-2011, 10:55 AM
I believe you basically replace all the fenders with the wide body version including replacing the front and rear bumper and your trunk lid. At least that is what it seems like from what I have seen other do and from the kits that I have found online...

Again, most people are missing the fact that a real RS 4 is very very expensive in Europe and gas is more than twice as much as here. This project makes a LOT of sense and even if OP is only interested in the cosmetics that's his biz. I for one love it and the dedication to go for it. Once your done with the outside you can just add a chip and mod the exhaust and you'll have a car that's much more powerful than most that's rolling on the roads in the UK. 1.4-1.8L NA engines is the norm over there, anyone seen a BMW 318 in the US lately?? Didn't think so cause it wouldn't sell for shit.
Cant' wait to see the finished project! Good luck mate! [drive]

No I'm sure Dimitri's car destroys any RS4 out there and he had done the RS4 wide body conversion but also built the motor. Correct me if I'm wrong. The OP can very much do the same by doing a custom build with a gt30 or gt35 and be at 400whp and beat any RS4.

It's like the DTM bumper. People don't put them on and claim they have an original DTM S4? (I know there are DTM A4's in Europe too). Say he wanted the widebody look? Have you seen a widebody B7 that looked good? Doubtful, because I'm sure most aftermarket WB kits look like crap.. So your best, and cheapest, option is to go RS4 fenders
Doctor
04-12-2011, 02:10 PM
No I'm sure Dimitri's car destroys any RS4 out there and he had done the RS4 wide body conversion but also built the motor. Correct me if I'm wrong. The OP can very much do the same by doing a custom build with a gt30 or gt35 and be at 400whp and beat any RS4.
Correct.
It is like when I see RS4 on the road....What, because they are RS4s...? I am sorry, but they are too slow compared to mine...Fact.

First Q, is Doctor=Dimitri? Can someone link some pics/vids of his/their car/s? thanks haha
I have a b7 I bought at pretty much a stage 3. Im making it a project to make it into an RS4 beater, one day when I get enough $$$. One thing Id like to do is widen the wheel base. I dont want an RS4 replica, so Im not gonna replace both bumpers and the trunk lid, but I wonder if it would be possible to roll all the fenders and put a 25mm spacer on each wheel, and fit some 19x9s on. How much wider is the rs4 than the stock a4 (i know i can look it up but someone must know off the top of their head)?
Even though I took off the rs4 badge weeks ago, I still get people asking me if its an rs4, even again today.

what was necessary for altering it to a wide-body? Did you have your oem fenders stretched, or replaced? Also, other than spacers, what else is necessary for a full wide body conversion?
you need the rear 1/4 panels
front wings
rear doors
side skirts
boot lid
front & rear bumpers

[drive]
Cheers pal,, Rs4's in this country are selling for anything between £20,000 with high mileage and range upto £45,000 with around 7000 miles on the clock.. Hence why i cant afford one.. The fuel is out of control over here @ the minute so running one would be a nighmare too,,

it's not about fuel cost, it's about accepting your car for what it is. there's a conversion kit that turns a mercury cougar into a bugatti veyron (appearance only obviously). I probably can't even afford the fuel for a veyron, even at US prices, but it's still a tacky conversion. obviously a much more extreme example than a4/rs4, but the logic that cites cost as a reason why the rs4 body/badge conversion stuff is cool is the same logic that suggests converting your cougar into a 170hp veyron is cool. a more common example, those people who put sti badges and sti wings on their wrx's/imprezas.
I'm not trying to be a dick, rather just give you an honest opinion without blowing smoke up your ass.

I don't see how this is a fair comparison to what is happening here. The OP is adding a wide body to a car that can come factory equipped as such. To be honest, I would do the same if I had the skill and money.
Flaming the OP for doing this would be the same as flaming every other Audizine member that has added an Sline bumper door blades or an S4 grill to a base A4.

And an A4 is not an S4. Yet people add aluminum mirror caps and door blades.
I also fail to see how this project is in any way similar to taking a Mercury and removing the entire body and replacing it with fake body parts resembling a car 200 times the price.

I read, though I don't really care what supposedly WILL happen. Badges take about a minute to remove, yet all I see are more pictures of RS4 badges on what is apparently a base model A4. He even put the grille on the car without taking the badging off, to me that does not suggest that he initially had the intention of taking them off, regardless of what is said now.
And I suppose it would be similar to adding s4 door blades, except here, unlike the door blade example, we're talking about replacing pretty major portions of the body that aren't at all similar to what came or comes on the car via some add-on package. I would think similarly about someone doing this sort of thing to an S4, though maybe not to the extreme that I do in this situation. The cougar/veyron example was meant to be extreme. the only real difference between that and this is cost, as you (cottonmouth) pointed out, which was my point. It's funny because iirc the op and some others are citing cost as a justification for this sort of thing. "Boohoo, the rs4 is expensive in my country." "boohoo, fuel is expensive in my country." Well, ok, but so is a veyron the the amount of fuel it drinks. This is almost a direct equivalent of putting STI wings and badges on base model imprezas, both in supporting logic and how extreme the modifications are appearance-wise (quite).
it's one thing to do a full on conversion, and it's not uncommon to see that sort of thing. however, doing major modifications to only looks related areas of the car at the complete exclusion of the performance end is pretty much the definition of being a poser, which has never been in fashion. To believe otherwise is to be completely deluded. Honestly, I think the A4 is a pretty bitchin' car, I think the RS4 is a pretty bitchin' car, but trying to pass of an A4 as an RS4 (even in passing) is not so bitchin', and I don't buy for a split-second that in some form this isn't what the op is trying to do outside of the forums.
If you don't want me to reiterate what i've said over and over, then let's just agree to disagree. I mean it shouldn't be that hard because, hey, it's just an opinion, and my opinion doesn't really matter, right? Or, I'm more than happy to continue, it's really no skin off my back.

Just got back from London, gas prices are the equivalent of 9.80 US Dollars. We pay about half of that and we complain, A LOT, justifiably. I'm sure most guys on here can afford a RS4, most work real hard, but the savings on gas/insurance/maitenance justifies these conversions. In addition to that, there is much more speed potential in a turbo than a NA car. I love the conversions personally, keep them coming. I'm next.

Not that my opinion matters anyways, but I know plenty of people that have taken old Chevelle's, Nova's, Cuda's, etc and made clones outta them. I have never heard ANYONE ever talk bad about anyone ever doing that. I think it is pretty cool to try and make a RS4, let him do it, his car, his money and at the end of the day, we all want to be proud of what we drive right, well, let him be proud of his hard work. Personally, I can't wait to see the finished product...... Badges or no badges, I could care less... If you all really think that makes him less of a man for leaving the RS4 badges on, then you are the same ones who probably hate boob jobs too...... Purists.... I love Boobies, so leave the Badges on....

Why are there so many haters in this thread?? especially funky_snowman, the OP's car looks great... and even better when it's painted.
bashing him on RS4 badges that he already stated he'd remove, and the decision of his thread title is pretty over the top.
How is this thread a failure if the OP made his car look better than it originally was...? That alone makes it a thread worth reading. And how unique it is makes it even better. If you can't find the good in this thread than we might as well stop posting up "lowered car threads", "new wheel threads", etc...

I mostly read the bitching and whining about the badges.....believe this or not there were many times where I got asked by people "Hey, is that an s4?" BUT THE BEST one of all time was a guy in an orange porsche convertible with a buddy pulled up next to while on the highway and asked "Hey, is that an s4 or RS4"................I facepalmed and told them to make a guess.....they went for the rs4.....Granted those are complete idiots so even if you put a sticker saying you have 335xi, the ones who dont know, will believe it. In the end, its your car, do as you please.
My personal opinion is that I wouldnt put RS4 or S4 badges on my car if it wasn't exactly that, or if i didnt go the full length to convert it into one.

Not dogging you cause you said you didn't read, a basic summary here for you: OP stated clearly that he was going to take off the badges when it gets painted and wasn't trying to pass his car off as an RS4, trollmeister aka funky_snowman ignores this and proceeds to freak out because the car, which is/was waiting for paint, still has RS4 badges

Very nice! It reminds me something [:D] Common thing : the tails of the OEM exhausts which are very small considering the OEM RS4 bumper.
[rs4] All the way!!
Dimitris
damn this car looks good, definitely a fan of the widebody, but I do miss the rings, and oval tips. Any modding plans?
