Hello audizine!

I recently retrofitted a pair of Bi-Xenon headlights with autoleveling on my A4 B7 and I need help with the coding part of the job. I fitted a kufatec aLWR xenon retrofit harness with sensors, control unit, the works.

I tried to search the net all last night but couldn't find any solid info on how to do it. What numbers to put where etc. I found all sorts of guides on A3 in german, but it seems google translate failed me.

I think I eventually sourced the correct info from various sites accross the web.
We did try and hook the car up to a laptop running VCDS and navigated to 55 (Xenon range) and then 07 (Coding). This is where I'm baffled. Various sites claim to insert either 000001 (front wheel drive), 00019, or 00020 into the "Software Coding" box. The fitting instructions supplied by kufatec claims this should be "00003". Woot?

But that's not all, it seems our VCDS accepts only a string of 7 numbers, not 5, not 6, but 7! We tried to insert 0000019 (7 numbers), but ofcourse, it does not accept it..
Does the VCDS need some configuring to get this to work? We packed your gear up and went home after this roadblock!

I really need help with this.

PS: Yes I am trying to get my Audi dealer to help me, but they are way to slow for my standards (I want to get things done, NOW :) ). And they're expensive.

If you did the full install, you can go to the comfort control module and click coding and a pop box should appear with values. You need to change your halogen (assumption) to xenon with control. Look in my signature for the link to the FAQ or go to first post in main thread, scroll down and look for the setting to re-code for rest of the world, that is the module you need.

Thank you! Will try this tonight.

Euro Headlights & DRL
* Module 09 (Central Electrical), recode to ###XY, where:
X = DRL
0 – Halogen without DRL
1 – Halogen with DRL
2 – Bi-Xenon with DRL
3 – Bi-Xenon without DRL
4 – Bi-Xenon with DRL / tail light / license plate light

Y = Locale
1 – Rest of World / Nordic Countries / Denmark / Croatia / Baltic Countries with Bi-Xenon
2 – Nordic Countries / Denmark / Croatia / Baltic Countries without Bi-Xenon
3 – USA / Canada with Bi-Xenon
4 – Canada without Bi-Xenon
5 – Special Vehicles

My code would be 00021? Bi-Xenon with DRL

I'm guessing the next step would be calibrating the leveling feature, also in your thread:

Fixing Dip Headlights display

Headlight Adjustment
[Select]
[55 - Xenon Range]
[Basic Settings - 04]
Group 001
[Go!]
Activate the Basic Setting.
[ON/OFF/Next]

The meas. block field now shows "Wait" and should switch to "Adjust Headlights" then (this may take up to 10 seconds).
Adjust the headlights using their manual adjusting screws as referenced against a suitable aiming target.
[ON/OFF/Next]
The adjustment should now be learned.
[Done, Go Back]
Don't forget to check/clear fault codes afterwards.
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

That's it? I should't poke around in -> 55 Xenon Range -> 07 Coding at all?

Thanks Quattro. The car knows it has Xenon now, low beam high beam works. We couldn't calibrate the auto leveling tho. Got a fault code, something about a wrong signal. I'm guessing the sensor arm is at a wrong angle.

Anyone know how exactly it's supposed to be mounted? A pic would own.

great to hear you got one part of the problem solved. to be honest, I don't have any photos of this, I know of only one other person who upgraded to the auto level on the b7 a4 section. Your best bet would be asking a b7 s4 guy for pictures of their set up, since they come stock with that option.

I do know that one sensor is needed on the rear end of the car somewhere, but thats all. Sorry I can't be of much help :(

Yes the sensor arm is on the driver side rear of the car....

This is the best picture I have showing where the sensor arm goes... The small verticle blue plastic arm kinda in the center of the pic.
