I'll take my car in for a leak (driver's side intercooler hose is leaking). I called the dealership and told them about the service bulletin for the cam follower also, I asked them if they could check it and they said they'll take a look. Did they say that just to make me happy or it could be for real? It's kind of hard to believe that they'll check it for no reason, am I right? My car is still under warranty, but getting close to 65k miles. I told them that I get a rough start when a bit cool outside. Any suggestions before I take in?

they won't check unless money is involved out of your own pocket (for peace of mind) OR a complaint where the MIL is on with a DTC, for that specific TSB. You gotta understand that the techs don't get paid under warranty unless a repair is made.

Would it worth it then to have somebody check it and take some photos and show it to them?

Ususally with warranty items, if they open it up and it's broke, they fix it. If it ain't broke, you pay for their time to tear it downa and put it back together. If you have someone check the part and it's clearly worn or broken or whatever, then you should be able to take it back to the dealer and say - check this out. I pretty sure it's broke and needs to be replaced under warranty.

The only problem could be their definition of when it needs to be replaced. Degrees of being worn are subjective. Maybe ask your servcie advisor at what point will the cam follower be replaced under warranty. Is it when it's clearly worn and failure (and subsequet giant repair bill) is eminent, or is only after failure and the cam and HFP and everything else needs to be replaced?

My dealer just ran the car for codes associated with the Cam follower, and when it came up clean, I was sent on my way. So unless you are having problems I don't think they will put much labor into it. But ever dealer is different.

Pay for the hour of shop time to have them check the follower wear. If it needs replacing (level of acceptable wear is specifically indicated on TSB), they'll replace it at no cost, assuming you're under warranty. If it's fine, then you paid an hour worth of shop time for some peace of mind. Not too bad.
