I need to get my bike to the bike shop, and will not have use of my wife's SUV with the bike rack. If I drop the rear seats, can I fit a 19" Specialized 29er MTB in there? Obviously the front wheel will be off. Any chance that this will fit?
05 A4 sedan BTW.

Loosen your stem so you can move your bars and you should have no trouble getting it in with the front wheel off.

It should fit. I put my cannondale in my trunk with the seats down. I recommend using a tarp. You don't want any bike grease getting on the interior.

I have tan interior. I definitely don't want bike grease or dirt in there. Thanks for the advice. I might just yank the handle bars to make it that much easier.

I fit two full size mountain bikes full suspension in the trunk of my a6 with the wheels off and seats down plus a tool box and book bags and all gear. Easily one with just the front tire off so i imagine you could too, just be gentle

Remove the front wheel, it should fit. I know my 54 cm Cervélo fit in there just fine this way. There should be no worries about grease if you maintain your bike properly and you lay it with the drivetrain up.

Agreed. All of my bikes fit (road, hardtail, and full suspension). As long as your saddle height is below 40", you shouldn't have a problem.
After I put my bike in the trunk (fork first), I lay an old towel over the rear wheel and saddle. Then I lay the front wheel on top. It prevents marring, keeps spokes from getting hung up, and keeps road grime off the saddle.

...hope you got a big trunk....cuz I'm gonna put my bike in it...'
Sounds like you should've gotten an avant or maybe it's time for a rack...???

It is the same with an Avant, I still have to remove my front wheel and lower the seats to get my bike in. The only difference really is the actual getting it in and out is a little easier as I don't have to deal with a parcel shelf.

We usually use my wifes vehicle which has the each but like I mentioned above, I won't have use of that.
Thanks everyone who helped.

Unreal. The trunk and back area on these cars is pretty damn big. It fit with no issues at all. I didn't even need to mess with the handlebars. The guy at the bike shop was pretty impressed. He saw me get out of the Audi, and then pull the bike out of the trunk. Said he couldn't believe that it fit.

That should say rack, not each. Damn iPhone and the damn autocorrect spelling thing. Fail

i dont know if its been mentioned or not but i take off my seat...for some reason that seems to make a difference for me
obviously along with my front wheel and turn it so your bars sit flat on the trunk floor...

Front wheel was the only thing I took off. Seat was fine where I had it I guess. I could see where taking it off would make it a little easier.
Remember to put it in drivetrain up ^

No need to pull the handlebars...just turn the fork when you put it in. Use a tarp, and put the bike in so that the seat is on the drivers side of the car. My road bike fits with no issues (60cm frame), and I'm 6' 3" and sit with the seat pretty far back...
