What are those 2 circular things on the bottom left corner of the second picture? They came in the shipping package but coundt figure out what they were, am i missing anything???

And, is there any way to tell if the shocks are blown without installing them and riding around with them?

CANT WAIT TO GET THESE INSTALLED!

oh yea, i have a '96 A4 2.8 Q

shouldnt the shocks be preasurized? My bilsteins exhanded on their own.

^^^ Not necessarily, I haven't played with the suspension on the Audi much, but I do know that with our Defender 90, the bilsteins are pressurized like you said, but the stock shocks as well as Rancho RS9000's are NOT pressurized. I don't know how Koni's are made though.

I dont no! haha, the orange ones say Neuspeed race, and the black ones just say Neuspeed "Made in Germany". So im guessing they are two differnt springs but same company?

I got the same set up. The springs color don't mean anything but then again mine are all black, not mixed. The little circles go on the front shocks. They are part of the perch. I didn't install them, but you can put them underneath the spring perch if you want. You will have to take the spring perch off the old shocks.

Slide that metal piece over the front shock and you will see that it stops about half way down. That is where the perch will sit.

ahh thanks. Thats weird tho, that the sprigns are differnt colors. I just e-mailed the guy i bought them from.

Hey sighpost, were your koni's compressed like that?

and, what is the difference between using the metal ring and not using it?

its best to keep the shock extended and not pressed in but koni's are air shocks and will not come up if you push them down on your own. well atleast on mine.

but definatley stretch the shock back out all the way its not good for em to be pushed in

I have no idea how far out the shocks stretch, but is this good? Or are these shocks just f^ck*d ?

the shaft streaches almost as long as the shock

yea, $%*@ i think theyre jammed. I cant pull them out any farther. So are they considered un-usable?

dood...i think the black ones are neuspeed sport springs, cuz i kno forsure the orange ones are race. make sure those are also for ur car if u have quattro or FWD

Yea, ill check the part numbers. But im just trying to concentrate on the shocks. Do you think they are un-useable? I cant pull them out no matter how hard i pull and twist.

The shafts of the Koni shocks will not automatically extend out. They're not like regular gas shocks, they contain oil in them. The rear shocks should be easy to extend out fully. As for the front shocks, when they are at the stiffest setting the shaft will be harder to pull out. The shaft definitely extends out. The softer the setting the easier for you to pull the shaft out. To increase dampening, compress the shaft all the way and put a allen wrench at the top and turn clockwise to increase dampening, counterclockwise to decrease dampening. I believe you can only turn them a max of 2.5 turns. The rears have adjustment of 10 turns. There should be a slot for which you can stick in a small allen wrench to turn a knob. By the way your front springs are sport springs and your rear springs are race springs.

No the black doesn't mean that they are sport. The color doesnt matter. I got the race springs in the mail. They were even in a box that said sport but when I checked the part number it matched the race springs. It was evident when I put them on my car and the drop was 2". I got my springs new but my shocks used. They were compressed unfortuneately and one was making a noise when I installed it but I don't know for sure that it is a bad shock.

neuspeed race springs can be either black or orange. however, i think the color difference has to do with different spring rates (but i'm not sure).

sighpost, what did you do after you heard the shock making noises? Did you just leave it? or did you replace it or something?

Well nothing yet. I took it off and put the stock shock on that wheel to see if hte noise disappered. It did, so now I am wondering if the shock is bad or not. I need to do something soon, because I don't know how long that shock will last.

it wont hurt to have race springs for back and sport for top right? just look kinda funny?

i dont know man, i just read this whole thread.. i hope all the shocks are good. but i belive the 2 springs from Neuspeed are fairly different. i would think that you would want all the same spring rate all around for handling and preformance. you could give it a try.. not to sure if it would work, race usually drops about 2 " and sport about 1.25-1.5" never mind the difference in spring rate and tension.. good luck with that man..
