Easy question. The airbag is now reconnected.

Do I need to vagcom the ecu or is this an Issue that will clear itself? Do I need to disconnect the battery?

It may clear on it's own, I would still VAG COM it as soon as you can to clear the code/'s. I had a lot of bag issues with my B5 early on and an air bag light may keep them from deploying when needed.

I don't believe an Airbag code will clear on its own. I did the same thing you did and after several drive cycles over several days of it not clearing I used Vagcom to clear the Airbag Control Modules codes. If you don't have Vagcom you should be able to, as mentioned above, clear it by disconnecting the battery for a period of time.

the air bag light will NEVER clear on its own, mine was on for over 4years of driving( just the loose drivers seat clip) so i fixed my clip cleared the code and no problems now, if will hold the fault code in the system untill it is cleared letting the driver know there is a "fault" in the SRS system. even the ebay vag-com will clear the code
