Hey guys -

I'm looking to put on a straight pipe on my 1999.5 1.8 T a4. Anyone know how much they go for? Just curious.

Thanks

should be cheap got to any exhaust shop depends on how much you want to delete

depends how much power your running right now. The more power your running the more your stock exhaust will restrict the flow of exhaust pressure. So if your car is stock you will not see as big as gains as you would from a bigger turbo car.

a strawpenny

seriously? a whole strawpenny?

LOL!!!!

OP, you will get little to no gains on a stock turbo 1.8t with straight pipe. big turbo you can see up to 100 more hp depending on the engine/turbo combination-but you're talking v8 with a 1200cfm turbo. likely on a 18t you'll see 25-50whp gains from stock to a straight pipe on a 2871 or 3071.

by "little to no gains" he means about 15hp to the wheels on a chipped 1.8t. (by running a 3" TP) there IS a definite seat of the pants difference, but its not going to be any thing crazy. you will gain a little more by doing the whole dp + catback, but the first big bottleneck is the cat. until you go with a larger turbo, everything past the TP is pretty much going to be sound alone. If you want the most gain for least amount of money, do the TP and be done till you go with a bigger turbo.

my car is straight piped to a magnaflow muffler. only original part of exhaust is the cat. i brought my car to a local shop thats known for doing some good work on trucks and muscle cars, they did a full downpipe back exhaust to my muffler. including bending and welding. i paid 175$. i just want to get a test pipe now. the car is pretty loud right now, i can only imagine with no cat

never gotten it dynoed before the exhaust so im not sure if i got anything out of it

Damn 175 is cheap! I got quoted 650 for 2.5" mandrel bent all the way back ( I am providing the VMR test pipe I bought)

that's because you're probably getting SS and mandrel bends. $175 gets you crushed piping and mig welds

actually looks good. but not mandrel bent.

but as stated, its not going to matter on a K03.

it sounds really nice, its just really loud in the lower gears and rpms. the drone isnt too bad. it will probly get worse when i get a test pipe. but its fine right now i can talk in the car and hear music no problem

i just did a stainless steel 2.5" from the cat to a magnaflow 14815.
And my cat is gutted so its pretty loud...and it makes a difference, the car pulls much better even thought its just a k03
i payed 300 (excluding the magnaflow)...but im in canada..might be difffrent pricing

Well ya I am getting Mandrel bent pipe and a dual tip muffler with a custom downpipe... 2.5" all the way.. I'm just debating whether to place a resonator or not... /threadjack

i did the test pipe and wanted to do cat delete but keep the stock piping. I can do the welding so it woulda been the cost of a pipe but never got around to it. was on a stock turbo at the time with dahlback chip and n75 race valve. felt a gain but not huge, but could here that litttle k03s spool like crazy. i would imagine a straight pipe would have quite a loud sound. for a few weeks i unbolted the exhaust and rode around with just a cat and downpipe and it was pretty loud like that. could only imagine no cat and just straight back.

you could quite possibly break the speed of light with this upgrade, and a chip.

you are not straight piped if you have a cat...

Either way, it will sound a lot faster than it actually is. I'd rather go with a quiet car that can whup ass when needed.

only if it's a car that can go fast if need be. or at least looks good.

my sister-in-law drives an older kia sephia. the girl she bought it from had put on a huge fart can. the damn thing is obmoxiosly loud for how lame/slow/stock that car is. i had to drive it around last week so i could work out all the bugs and fix it up so they could sell it. and it was the most embarassing thing to drive ever. loud as shit with 13" chrome hubcaps and flower stickers all over. not fun at all

from the downpipe to the muffler. its just pipe. nothing in between. technically no its not full straight pipe, but all it is right now is cat and muffler. no res. and soon no cat
