hi folks:
I am wondering what is the most economic way to chip a 01 A4 1.8T quattro? It originally has 170hp and 150lbs*f torque. If I would want it to have about 200hp and 230lbs*f, what I can do to chip this car? Any suggestion is highly appreciated. Thanks.

hi Kyle, can you please explain a little bit more on this? How do I tune the speed? Do I take of ECU to reprogram it? Getting a used one mean I should look for an ECU that has been chipped? Thanks a lot.

You can either buy a pre-chipped compatible ecu or send your ecu out to be reprogrammed.

I got a GIAC chip. It should spike somewhere around 20-21. It has been run on an AEB engine. I don't know what the consequences of running it on a facelift engine would be. It pulled very nicely had a 7200 Rpm limit, I was still getting 600+ kms on a tank with it, I opened it up and it was a chip from APR that is sodered on. Offers are really nice, but of course my friend has been using it and might be competitive in keeping. LOL.

Ha, yea but the T3/T4 knocked on the door today but I wasnt here :( And it wouldn't work on newer motors Bry, they have immobilizers.

Won't work. AEB doesn't have a MAP sensor, as far as I know the facelift 1.8T does. The AEB has an older Motronic.

Get a suitable chip or leave it. Don't waste money on Ebay chips, in worst case you could kill your engine.

@Tomat If you need help wrenching it let me know, Just don't leave bucket-fulls of oil in my driveway again LOL. I'm looking to actually put something together and keep it that way, the grinding on my block was sooo much more intense that I thought. And I have to weld a small puncture I made in the number three cylinder block wall, no big deal, just a pain in the ass.

Currently APR has a sale for up to 37% off tuning for your 01 A4 1.8t quattro. The tune takes it from 170 to ~214HP. It isn't free but it works and it is yours for life. If you decide to go stage 2, the software for that is free - you just pay your local tech fees. If you don't live close to a shop we have a 3 day turn around service (http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-Quattro-1.8T/Engine/Chip_Tuning/?salesrep=CArmbruster&utm_source=audizine&utm_medium=forum&utm_content=CArmbruster&utm_campaign=postreply). The results are uncompromisingly amazing!

99.5 facelift still has an AEB engine. 2000+ switched.

^ You're sure? According to my @ka the AEB was discontinued together with the last PFL. Maybe in the US, also the ATW engine never appeared in Europe.

TS has a 01 so he needs a different chip anyway.

It's probably different for europe.
