Sounds like a common midfire issue, but could be more severe. Get your car scanned at your local Autozone, write down the fault codes their OBD II scanner pull sup, then post them on here. Till then, there really isn't anything people can do to help you. Also, car specs would be helpfull.

Year?
Engine type (2.8 or 1.8t)?
Modifications?

You don't need to bring it to a shop. Just to go autozone, have them scan it (for free), post up the codes on here and we will help you from there. We try and save you as much money as possible when it comes to maintenance (and modifications[;)]). These are something else when it comes to ownership, and you will come to know the truth of that after a while.

Explore Audizine. If you find your way to the regional section, there will be someone around your area more than willing to assist. We mostly don't ask for money when it comes to helping eac others out, depending on the task. If someone charges you for scanning your vehicle, he's a jerk. Just give whoever scans your car a 6-pack of whatever beer they want for doing you a favor.

Just go buy a scanner yourself for $60. It should have been an feature that automatically came with the car lol

Here's a link to one: http://www.jcwhitney.com/obd-ii-pocket-scanner/p2011215.jcwx?TID=8014524FT2&zmam=15972153&zmas=18&zmac=129&zmap=21249G

If you have a laptop already, just get vag-com. The cable is less than $15 shipped on ebay, and the software is free. The problem with generic scanners is they won't decode every code and they won't even see "intermittent" codes.

This one is about $11, ships from china:

This one is about $20, but ships from Oklahoma:
