Well, already speaking spanish, Catalan was offered at UCLA while I was there, so I hit up a few quarters. Pretty fascinating language. I've found when speaking to folks in Barcelona, they'd prefer speaking to me in Spanish as opposed to Catalan - because I wasn't fluent. Kind of some arrogance there. My brother speaks portugese also, along with catalan, so he's really mixed up in his languages.

I never realized how many Armenians were located in LA until i was stuck there with my broken down car and took a visit to the library and noticed the "Armenian" section of the library. Then after that I noticed that every other Mercedes, BMW, or Audi was being driven by an Armenian (judging by the way they looked and the Rose Mary hanging from their rear view). I know it's a bit stereotypical but it's very similar to the Chaldean culture that we have down here in SD.

Ok, so now that we have someone who can speak for armenians...or at least yourself....what is it with Armenians and extremely expensive cars? haha
I get this question a lot and here is the explanation:
In Armenia homes are extremely cheap, I mean you can buy a damn castle for like $60,000(HUGE) and the average home is much much less maybe below $10,000 for a very decent decent home. So anyone and everyone who has a job, etc. has a home and they usually stay in that one home for decades and generations since there aren't many housing projects in Armenia and Yerevan the capital is already crowded enough.
Cars on the other hand are priced very similar to here, and simply lots of used cars are transported and sold in foreign countries like Armenia and they are much cheaper than buying used/new from there as they are not in high demand.
Basically, clothes/cars are the only inanimate objects that display status. Like here in the USA if you have a nice house or a business that displays status. Cars are much more exotic in third world countries like Armenia as they are true luxuries and most of the people do not have cars since they cost more than their homes and by making an average of $200 a month they can't afford a Kia. So those who have cars are the higher income class people. Now when Armenians move here from Armenia and see that the basic job pays much more and most of them get better jobs since those who come over are usually educated or have money as coming here costs a crap ton of money since the government does not want people living. So most also have family here so finding a job for them is rather easy or is already ready when they move here. When immigrants see that you can FINANCE a car here(in Armenia u either pay cash or you don't get a car) and that the payments are reasonable they buy NICE CARS. EVERY CULTURE HAS THESE PEOPLE, most other countries are the same way. Only in America is everything so far away that cars are absolute necessity everywhere else walking is the best form of transportation.
The reason why you see only Armenians in nice cars here is because we are all situated within Los Angeles County(largest population of Armenians outside of Armenia and Moscow). If you moved into a Chinese neighborhood like Arcadia or San Marino they drive in even nicer cars and live in some of the nicest homes yet don't even speak 3 words of English(stating a fact not my view as I work in these areas). This is a common thing for immigrants and us Americans are spoiled with just how accessible cars are to the people. If you move to an Arab neighborhood, same thing Arabs like nice cars as well for the same reasons. Americans are spoiled with what they have available at their fingertips and for that reason understand that status is not portrayed through what you drive alone.
Think about it, if you make $50,000 a year that's about $4,000 a month and if you rent and your rent costs $1500 all utilities paid and you pay another $1000 in bills you are left with $1500 to spend and so if your credit is above 720 you can go lease a 335i for $650 a month and $2000 down and still have money left over. So why would you go out and lease an accord at $250 a month if you can afford a BMW? However, to lots of people cars aren't as important so this is not the case.

That's because the Red Cross was started by a Swiss, and he simply inverted the swiss flag to make the logo.
hey, free healthcare there right?
Don't fool yourself, nothing from the government is free. :-)
Actually, it is free; even for visitors/tourists. You don't pay sales tax, and the jails there are literally on the same level as 4-Star hotels here. Your own room, tv, window with no bars, enclosed bathroom, 3 non-junk square meals a day.
However, property tax is the killer, having a house is extremely hard to afford there.
Socialism, yay!
Edit: I'm secretly pretty heavily republican [:D]. Don't tell Swizterland, they might drop my citizenship if they found out I don't like government support and gun laws[:p].

Taxes, like everywhere else. Though you don't have to pay for insurance and bills on top of that. The government has budgeted the healthcare well into the overall taxation...
There might not be sales tax; but have you ever tried to buy a new car over there? My friend just bought a B8 S4 Avant, it was the Swiss Franc equivalent of $120,000 USD; thats basically double what we pay, and yes Germany is right next door. Or there is the petrol(gas) price and tax. Living is expensive over there.

I remember reading an article on yahoo awhile ago about how Denmark is the happiest country in the world because of having free health care, education and etc.... but its not really free because of all the tax that they'll take from your income and when you buy a car(the tax is more than the value of the car) - did a little research before posting haha
for the car thing, search how much cars are in Burma(also known as Myanma) - my gf told me how his Dad bought their landcruiser for (USD $300,000+) back home.
Didnt believe her 'til she showed me digits online....LOL

Mother was born in Aden, Yemen. Father was born in Tanzania, Africa. Both Indian and speak Gujarati.
Somehow my mother and father end up here in LA after meeting in England, where they lived for a great amount of time and got married.
Both parents don't look Indian whatsoever. I speak English and Gujarati/Hindi (what Gandhi spoke).
