hey all.

Lately my car has been kicking when the car is upshifting through its gears and occasionally when downshifting. The car is chipped with a GIAC chip. The only time it doesnt "kick" is when the transmission is in manual mode. has anyone ever had this type of problem[o_o]

Yep It's called being a tiptronic owner welcome to the party that is that transmission haha. It should be worse in D, a little better in sport, and not so bad at all in manual. Just kinda part of the game. I've been running a K04 on mine and its been fine so not to worry too much.

Yes. post up your year and mileage. see a dealer and try getting your trans fluid changed. otherwise get used to it

I have noticed that a little bit, especially when I am at half or more throttle and go to shift. I just got used to letting off the gas a little bit and then shifting.

I'm chipped w/ REVO and my transmission runs smooth as butter.... even smoother in manual mode.

Service the car regularly, and make sure the tranny fluid in there is the smurf blue fluid... otherwise you may be in for a series of headaches

Hmm, I would need to figure out how to flush my tranny fluid and change it out .

I've only got a couple thousand miles until 25k, when I take it in I will probably mention it to the service team and see what they think. It has been doing it for quite some time, I just never thought anything of it.

Same thing happens with me. I have the APR 93 chip. Its really only 3rd to 4th gear. I guess I'll try a tranny service?

I'm running APR 93 and have the same issue as well. The kicking feeling seems to be more prevolent on 2nd - 3rd gear upshifts in my opinion.

have to use OEM tranny fluid or is Mobil1 ATF okay to use?

these ZF transmissions take specific fluid and it also depends on the year a specific B7 was produced. to DIY one needs to give an audi parts department the transmission serial number and order the specific fluid according to the number. I would not use over the counter transmission fluid.

Changing the fluid doesnt help....I made Audi do it because it was so unbearable (love that the K04 is so stealthy they didnt notice haha). They changed the fluid and it was a tiny bit better (maybe I imagined it) and they told me there is no software update they could do. My mom's 2.0T convertible does the exact same thing and it has no modifications what so ever....I think it's just an unfortunate consequence of the valve bodies not being big enough and I think the stall speed is too high on the torque converter. I did extensive research on the capabilities of the transmission/what it's meant for etc. and it doesn't surprise me that they dont like excess amounts of torque. Even stage 1 levels are dangerous close/over the rated level.

btw, my tip B7 does kick typically when I let off gas pedal and let it coast and then push the throttle. doesn't happen in tip mode. I heard that these auto transmissions "learn" the particular driving style and try to adapt. I had a theory that maybe switching from tip to auto forces the transmission to "re-learn" and adapt.

I have the habit of sometimes using tip mode and letting off the gas (i know i know im a poser rofl) it has a little kick when i do that but its pretty obvious why.

in d it seems to occur sometimes in the lower gears, in S i dont really notice it.

Just because I was curious, I took my car in today and rode around with one of the service techs. We noticed that my car really seemed to display this behavior when I was shifting during climbs up hills. Can anyone relate to this experience? He said he was going to try a couple other B7 A4's and see if he could replicate the "problem". We found that it was typically 3->4 or 4->5 and the jump was right around 100/200 rpm. The jump is best described as a sharp jolt instead of smooth rise in rpm. At least, this is whats happening with my car. No word yet on severity of the problem or if it is damaging anything - though the tech didn't seem to think anything was in danger right now - he wasn't sure about long term effects.

When I get an email back, I will update this thread with my results.

I got an email response back from the dealership. The tech I worked with tested a couple other B7 A4s - all of them performed the same way. So - this is being considered normal. I'm not sure if this is a flaw, but its at least consistent. "So the vehicle is performing as designed. [tech] seems to think that the vehicle is not anticipating a up shift at that point while driving up hill."

(Edit) Side note: I think its kinda funny that its anticipating. My A4 is alive....its alllllllive...... [:)] Sorry...just had to!

Even stage 1 levels are dangerous close/over the rated level.

What is the rated level? Why haven't there been more threads of tranny failure if a stage 1 is over the rated level?

im doing alot of research on this and dont really see anyone worrying about any failures due to going stage I and stage II

it seems like there are plenty of people that are stage 1 and 2 with tip and dont have problems
i wanna go stage 2 but not sure if blowing the tranny is worth it

That's contradicting...

B6's with tiptronic transmissions are holding up really well. Alot of people are stage 2+ and a few are stage 3 and the transmission has been holding up fine. The problem is the FWD A4's with CVT transmissions.

I never heard of anyone blowing a tiptronic transmission in a B7 yet either...

I haven't heard of any issues with the 6 speed tip trannies. If you feel it's a real concern, get the fluid changed (by Audi) and see if the issue goes away. Is it heavy jerking like almost doing a neutral drop on a rental?

substitute the word 'kicks' for the work 'sucks' in thread title.

disconnect the battery and see if that helps. lets it reset?

I'm having this transmission kicks and it gets worse when the car has fully warmed up + warmer weather. From 2->3, there is a gear slip (RPM would surge to about 200 and the 3rd gear would jam into it), 4->3 and 6->5 with slight acceleration, the entire car would shake/clunk as if you get rear ended. But yesterday, I disabled the software chip and drove the car so hard like i stole it from someone.. after about an hour of madness, all of a sudden, all gear shifts were as smooth as a baby's ass. I tried replicating the kicks today but i could not! cant say for sure if the software chip is really the culprit, but that fixed my issue and i would sacrifice power for smooth shifts.. i'll live with that!

No issue here: Revo Stage 2 - 102K
I did replace my tranny fluid and pan filter with OEM fluid, everything is smooth as glass since

IMHO Don't go to the stealership for anything but warranty issues.. And to answer your question, yes most likely it will be

Would probably cost you your arm, leg, your pets, loved ones and possibly half of your life savings.

Got quoted $780 from the Dealer and they really did not want to do it so I did it myself and I have posted the DIY

What is the fix for this i have replaced torque converter with a new hampton torque converter and replaced the filter and put the new green fluid in it lifeguard 8 and still does it seems to be better than before but as i watch the torque converter using vag com as soon as i shift into third and it goes from open to reg mode car shudders once car warms up its much better than when i first start car when cold but still does it and very annoying if i drive the car like i stole it every where you can barely feel it but if i just cruise at normal speeds it does it every time only other thing to try is take to dealership and get the tiptronic software updated which i have read about being fix for some people at this point wish i would of bought the 6speed manual quattro so many people with tiptronic have this issue and audi does nothing to make it right i love my car but hate that i have put all this money in it and cant fix it!!???anyone with advice please let me no and i no this thread is old but these are exact symptoms i am having
