Are you saying that the lever stays in "D" but the display and car go to "S" on its own? Or does the lever fall to the S position? Just clarifying... Don't think either will be a major problem probably just an adjustment to the lever itself?
I don't know the Audis trans setup so I cant offer any sound help, maybe others in the know will have good advice....sorry

maybe i should of been more clear, sorry 'bout that.

OK, so when im driving the display in the cluster shows the car going from the "D" position to the "S" position, simotaniously, the transmission is actually going from drive to "S" on its own, the lever remains in the "D" position. Once it happens, i'll try putting the gear down to "S" and back up to "D", but it remains in "S". So something is definately wrong here, it's behavior is spontanious and will usually go back to "D" on its own after afew minutes, its very annoying though because when it happens im assuming the car is in 7th gear, and it jolts down to 6th in "S" mode. Also..the other day it happened and then the bottom part of the display that reads "PRNDS" starts blinking in a red color like the car has realized there is a malfunction.

hope that made sense, thanks guys for your input

If that is blinking, then it's probably your transmission control module. I'd take it in. Is this a tip or cvt?

simotaniously

Massive spelling fail, lol [:D].

On a more serious note though, another problem that seems common is that sometimes the magnets underneath the shifter in the Tiptronics can fail and cause weird issues, although I haven't heard of it causing the ones you are describing. It does sound like perhaps some sort of TCM issue. Do you have access to VAGCOM?

If the lower part of your display is flashing then you need to take it in.
