I've been having this problem where the idle goes up and down like it's going to stall, then the gas pedal doesn't work and car can't accelerate. I cleaned the MAF sensor but problem still occurs. Car feels like it's lost a lot of power. When accelerating the engine shutters and hesitates to rev. So I have had my car for 3-4 years now, always wanted to fix it up but spends most of the money repairing. Finally just bought a boost gauge (which I should have done a long time ago) and installed it. Boosting at 4 psi and idle 20 in/hg. Obviously this isn't normal...right? Possible boost leak?

What year, engine? Any codes? I'd look at codes, fuel trims, and log the MAF first.

Clogged cat sounds possible, though.

The car's a 99.5 1.8TQM..AEB. I don't have a VAG COM scanner so I don't know. Shit man, I need to get one soon...I hate taking it to the shop, I know I can do this myself. But I guess I have to take it to a shop first for now. Thank guys.
