so i put on the thule roof rack today, with 2 bike trays, and the fairing.. and man, it just looks weird. too far forward, or the fairing is not big enough, or the bars are too close, i am not sure. but can somebody post up a pic of what it looks like WITH a fairing please? as of now, the fairing sits just in front of the sun roof. and it goes across from roof rail to roof rail, but maybe its just too thin looking?? not sure, i will get a pic up of it tomorrow... please help, would like to see where others are lining them up on your railings.
thanks

I keep them as far back as possible (actually to the point where my bike tire nearly makes contact with the rear window when the hatch is up) ! OH yeah, and I've never been a faring fan since one of my GTIs had some significant paint damage from one. But I do not enjoy the whistle at high speed without the faring!

i bought a fairing as well, but your right it doesnt really work on avants. i think the issue is our bars are too far back. most fairings I have seen are mounted further forward towards the windshield. mine hits the sun roof so i just took it off and its in my closet.
aero thule bars, packasport box just for kicks

Let me see if I can find a pic for you. I'd just go snap one, but I don't have the rack on at the moment.
Edit: Here's the best I could find. You can see in the pic that I ran the front crossbar all the way forward to where the roof rail starts curving back into the roof. This should put the fairing just far enough forward to clear your sunroof--the pads of the fairing may touch the very front of the sunroof, but shouldn't interfere with it's operation.

will mess around with it after work. when i did it that way the bike holder looked kind of funny! but i might just turn it around to the rear, and then the holder might not sit do far over the front. i have the thule sidearm
