so i have come to the conclusion, my next project/ savings are going for a turbo upgrade. i do not want to spend loads of money, like 2k. so here it is..
i have software and DP, tp, Exhaust, i do not feel it is necessary to get a FMIC so i'd rather swap my turbo out.
what is the NEXT in line for a turbo upgrade after ko3, ... ko4 right? if so, what gains are you looking at? and is it a easy/direct swap? i dont want to get into like a huge garret and change all the piping and manifold and all that jazz. lookng for possibly +/- $1000 . is KO4 the way to go, or something better?

well first off you wont be able to just throw in a K04. Its not like a Honda where you can just pop things in and make it work. You should search around first. Go look in the Wiki or just search it.

No direct bolt on K04 for our cars. You need to get get a different Exhaust Manifold or get the K04-064 which is on the S3(5304-907-0064) than remove the internals from that turbo and fit them inside your stock K03 housings or find the the compressor wheel and turbine assemble and stick them inside your K03. I have tried to find the the parts which are 5306-123-2014 (compressor wheel 46mm inducer) and 5304-120-6511(turbine wheel and shaft) Borg Warner keeps saying 10-12 weeks . When its all said and done i will spend the 1300 for a K04-064 and gut it; still cheaper than 4k. Seems like APR has a lock on the K04 market for B7 but hey nothing last forever.

first off, if you dont have a fuel pump then you need that.
For 2k the only thing youll find is the ATP mild turbo upgrade at KMD that no one knows what it really is or how to program it.
the S3 K04 is 1300 but needs to be modified to fit, theres your 2k right there. then add software and injectors etc.....
APR has k04 kit for about 4k and stasis has one for about 5k. i think awe has one in that range as well.
RAI talks about making a modified K03 with K04 power that should be in your price range but we have been dreaming about this emptyhanded for months so i wouldnt hold your breath.
heatsoak is a b*tch so u may be better off just adding the hpfp, watermeth, and the forge wastegate tweak and then see if ur ready to spend the big bucks

I would say get a FMIC, HPFP, and meth. skip the turbo unless you have 4-5k to spend.

i dont get why everyone on the forum keeps talking about meth. its a slow audi. meth does nothing with these cars. show me a dyno that meth actually made a difference on these cars without causing any problems and ill believe. other then that, its not an evo. its a baby turbo in a heavy car.

Running Water/meth will cool your intake charge below ambient. Will also cool your cylinder walls pistons(water); will give a over all drop in engine temp.Heat soak is not too much of a problem in the hot summer days. The meth will up your octane which will reduce knock and possible detonation(this is bad). It does all that and with out being tuned for it( I have scans to prove it). When tuning with water/meth you can run more timing (more power) and boost. Also you can lower the duty cycle on your injectors because the meth acts as a secondary fuel source. Methanol has a octane rating of 123. Any force induction vehicle will benefit from it; NA car benefit from it as well. Believe it or not these are the facts!!

Don't even bother...I wonder if he knows our stock k03's are bigger than some older k04's

You're not going to get any turbo kit worthwhile for less then 2K. You'll run up 2K just on parts alone and if you had to ask that question in your Op, I doubt you're going to be doing the work yourself, so your going to have to factor labor into it also.
Like the guy said above, dont even bother.

For the most part, you are dead wrong.
On a stock A4, meth is not going to add any power to your car (I dont think anyone ever claimed it would)
On a modified A4 (turbo, software, IC, HPFP) you do tend to get a little more power out of the car due to lower IATs.
