So I was going to change my shocks and struts because the winter and NY roads destroyed them 30k after getting them and I found this...

First off, what is the official name of this part? and do you have a left and right rear that are in good condition for a 98 A4 quattro you are willing to sell ?

Thanks again.

Would this technically be covered under audi's lifetime warranty of rust corrosion? or is that for body panels only?

I don't know and I'm thinking the aggravation of dealing with Audi to get this fixed is not worth the effort. I just want to replace them and get back to driving....

dude, the backing of that thing is only a cover, it doesnt add any strength to it, I actually punch out mine, they were less rusted the yours.

That would be the upper shock mounts you can get a new set from the Audi recylcer or call Audi of America to ask about the rust. They are SUPER friendly and answer within three rings. They can also tell you if there are any open recalls of your a4.

Orrrrrr like others have stated just punch out the rusted back plate and undercoat it with some wal mart truck bed liner.

So is the general consensus that the rotten metal is just a cover? If so i can just buy some sheet metal and weld it back on as a cover......Thoughts?

If you really want to, like i said, its only a cover, you dont really need one on.

It may not be "needed" but it is covering it for a reason.

Its only covered so the part doesn't look cheap. I actually like having it open so it easier to adjust my coilovers. Instead of using the keys, I turn the hole shock body, and with that hole i can make sure that the joint at the top doesnt unscrew itself.
