So to my disappointment I was getting on the freeway leaving work yesterday and as I put it in 4th to start speeding up on the on ramp my car starts to idle roughly and started to loose power in every gear like it was back firing. Everytime I stepped on it, it barely wouldmove and at a complete stop was shaking roughly. Of course by this time the check engine light was flashing so I did it get it towed waiting to hear about it...any ideas on what it could be Audiziners? Maybe even a price point?

Appreciate any feedback Guys, Thanks

B.T.W It is an 2005.5 A4 just hit about 60000 miles

I'm willing to bet that it is your coilpacks, which are notorious for failing in this manner. Mine did, and my symptoms were identical to yours, with the flashing cel and all. Cheap and easy fix, nothing to worry about it. Buy a coilpack, and swap it out with a coilpack in your car and test them all till you find the culprit. You have a 25% chance of finding him on your first attempt. After it's fixed, ALWAYS carry a spare coilpack in your trunk.

(Rinse and repeat)

Lets not forget to mention there is a recall on Audi coil packs, check your dealership first to see if your car is covered and if so they replace them all for free!

As for price point: Are you at a shop as we speak? I imagine the tow is ~$80, they will prolly replace all your CPs at ~$200, they'll charge you labor at ~$80.

OR (what I would do)

Drive to an Audi dealer, buy all 4 new revision coilpacks, swap them all out yourself, and mail in the reimbursement form and get your money back. (KEEP YOUR RECEIPT AND ALL RECORDS)

But does Audi really have this reimbursement form your referring to? Because of course Ive replaced the bad coil but do feel that I want to replace all 4 so they are all good. Will Audi reimburse me for all 4 or just the bad one?

Thanks again Ziners for the help!

My car started acting weird last night and the CEL came on. First, at startup it kept saying my parking bulb was (even though I just replaced all of them last week) and the warning indicator would go off a few seconds later. Then when I would put it into gear and let off the clutch, it would jump and shake like a 12yr old girl was practicing how to drive stick. Something just doesn't feel right, I wonder what it could be?? I have a 3.2L if that makes any difference.

If you received the Coilpack recall letter; the form should have been included with it.

However it looks like they stopped honoring the reimbursement back on 02/28/2010.

Check out this link from the Audi of America website and expand the question that's about 10 down:
