View Full Version : Way to be Douches, APR.

So I've now installed the entire APR Stage 3 kit, including the carbonio airbox (which, incidentally, they list as a SUGGESTED item, even though you will have to do custom work to get the kit to fit if you don't have it...), and a full exhaust system. I'm now running into two minor issues now, less than a year after the system was installed. First, I have a leaking gasket between the turbo and the testpipe. Because the kit comes with a unique 5 bolt pattern for the GT28R, I can't get the gasket off of any other supplier or from Audi directly. Second, my mechanic told me today that my injectors aren't holding a seal and as such, are leaking out gas into the cylinders when the car isn't running. Two easy fixes: put in a new gasket and replace/refurb the injectors.
Here is where APR took a big nosedive. I called them to discuss the problem, and their first response was simply to email them. When I said that the problems were very simple, the gentleman on the phone told me to go ahead and I told him that my turbo/testpipe gasket was bad and that my injectors weren't holding seal. His responses? First, that they don't sell the gasket separately, so if I wanted a new one, I would have to purchase a SECOND testpipe! Rather than try to help me get a replacement gasket, their solution was to effectively drop $225 on a gasket and use the extra testpipe as a dining room table centerpiece.
Then, to simply exacerbate the situation, he basically told me that although APR warrantied the parts in their stage 3 kit, that they won't warranty the injectors failing within a year. When I asked if that meant APR would do nothing about the problem with their kit, he told me to go buy new ones. The overall effect and tone of the conversation was that I should go take a flying leap. Needless to say, even though APR has been helpful in the past, this experience may very well have forever left a bitter taste in my mouth and harsh words for them on the tip of my tongue.
Epic fail, APR.

To get a replacement gasket is $25 and I will talk with the warranty department to have these injectors warrantied as they shouldn't be leaking within a year. There is NO excuse for the way whomever you talked to acted and I sincerely apologize on APR's behalf as that is not indicitive of our customer service at all.
Please contact me on my personal line at 334-502-5181 ext. 204. I will take care of this for you personally and help you get your A4 back to where it should be.

Good luck on the fix. should make anybody think twice about doing something like a stage 3 setup with APR. something small like a $599 ecu tune is one thing, a stg 3 kit is way more expensive and extensive.
I bet Arin will chime in.

OP, on the basis of this post by APR, you should respectfully change the title of your thread.
If you don't it's tantamount to a hissy fit thrown by a 2-year-old. Sometimes it takes a couple of calls to get to where you need to be. APR is a highly reputable company, and I would be willing to bet that your post was the second time they've heard about this problem. Everyone knows that when you don't get what you need from a customer service rep, you should talk to management. It's not a matter of incompetence, it's a matter of process.
Wise up before posting stuff like this. Any company can have a weak link...

The OP didn't throw a hissy fit....sounds like he went through the proper channels and then was fed up with APR's respone b/c they at that point were not help themselves either. The OP didn't bash APR as a company but rather relayed a shitty experience he had with an employee of theirs and questioned the reasoning for no gasket and warranty of injectors.
This is one of the few times a poster should post about a company not doing the right thing........but in the end APR true to form did do the right thing for this guy and his issues.
Glad this worked out.
Thanks APR for being good to all of us...........even though I'm a GIAC guy...LOL

I have never had a problem with APR. I purchased an item used from a member on here, and e-mailed APR to try and see if maybe out of the kindness of their heart they would e-mail me the instructions and even stated in the e-mail it was purchased second hand. I got a reply back in an hour with an attachment with the instructions and they told to call or e-mail if I had any problems or questions making it work. I wasn't even a customer and their service was top notch. Thumbs up for APR. Every company has an asshole or maybe someone just having a bad day. Me personally I would have hung up and called again, but can see why the OP is pissed. APR is a stand up company, rest assured aside from your one off incident your the first and only person I know who has ever had a legit problem with em. They bend over backwards for everyone I know of as well as myself who wasn't even a customer.

I understand where you're coming from; you have to know that APR is very plugged in to the community and therefore would bend over backwards for a customer. The OP made it sound like he was just another customer of a cable or phone company... APR clearly treats its customers better out of necessity.
I'll concede that the "proper channels" should have yielded a better result, but we all have to realize that we're dealing with small companies who have every opportunity to mess up. Not that anyone did, but to compare their customer service/fulfillment to Amazon, etc. is totally unfair. Just look at the 034 thread from Issam... He's trying to serve the community but has about 1/100th of a percent of the resources that the big guys have. Give 'em a break for god's sake...

Although APR stepped up and will be rectifying the OP's situation, it is entirely unfair and juvenille for the OP to call them out in the manner he has. I would like to point out a couple of misconceptions in his post.

it's unfortunate that many companies out there (alot on this forum) will leave you out to dry after you buy a product from them (even after spending thousands on them)... glad that APR stepped up to the plate and is taking care of you. My brother has been having trouble with the company/seller that he bought his turbo kit. from parts(got the wrong downpipe) to the tuning (he ordered his ecu a certain way and of course they sent him sh!t that was not suppose to be on there) [evilmad]

i totally agree with this statement, to a point though...first you try to solve the problem with the company but if if falls on deaths ears than why not expose their sh!tty business practices, especially these days when the economy is crap, customer service is of upmost importance.

"falls on deaf ears", dude. deaf ears..... and it's utmost.
He only talked to one person at APR, so he never got to a supervisor-level position. APR had no chance to make up for the bad employee. All good companies will have a couple of bad eggs, but the good businesses will always take care of their customers if they have a legitimate issue.

I've heard complaints before, and sure they were generally bull, but this guy had a legitimate beef? Why should he assume that the guy he talked to just blatantly lied about that? It would be a ridiculous assumption to think that an employee of a company would say something like that, and unfortunately it happened to be the case in this situation. He got taken care of extremely respectfully by APR, and this post did the job for him. And in fact, this post is some good publicity for APR, cause people see how well they work and help people. And I'm sure he would say they are top notch now too
