I installed my Podi this weekend and already I have saved a ton of gas. It wasn't my intention to drive more sensibly but now that I see when the car is boosting I have been easier on the throttle. Life is funny sometimes.

Haha. Good to know. Never thought of it as a gas saver before [>_<]

Haha I think it did the opposite for me, just got mine a couple weeks ago and seems like I like to get into boost more to see the needle fly...

I would do the same :)
At $4.73/gal for 94 octane in Vancouver I try to stay out of boost as long as I can [drive]

it's funny after reading you're post in the morning I consciously made the decision that I would be aware of the boost gauge and not boost. as a result my MPG jumped from 16 MPG to 23MPG!!! I wonder what I would get highway MPG...

Saving gas was one of the biggest reasons I got a boost gauge. Our pea sized KO3 is so easy to get boost from, so having a gauge really helps your driving habit when in traffic. Good call OP!
podi FTW!

so what do you guys like to keep it under to save gas?

so what do you guys like to keep it under to save gas?
I just kept it below zero. I usually hovered at -10psi

Yes, in traffic and heavily populated areas. On the HWY I try to see what PSI I can spike to, until I get to cruising speed, than its back to vacuum.

Meh... the crime here isn't so bad... it's simply there is more media coverage on the subject and noisy politicians trying to make names for themselves by making outrages claims that we need National Guard intervention. we need to staff more police and have them patrol the higher risk areas in the westside (w00t w00t) like Pilsen, Humboldt Park, Little Village, and eastside neighborhoods like Englewood and washington park.

true dat. just got my gauge in too, great way to save gas and stay aware of boost levels!
A tad off topic.. but can anyone tell me what the benefits of having an Oil temp. gauge or an Exhaust temp. gauge? Just curious, and lazy. ;)
Oil temp gauge allows you to make sure the oil is warmed up before you start going into boost in order to assure proper lubrication, you also want to know if the oil is getting too hot and breaking down.
Here is a link I found a while ago explaining it in detail: http://www.elephantracing.com/techtopic/oiltemperature.htm

EGT gauge will show you how hard the engine is working, if you are running rich and if you need to back off the accelerator to help the engine cool down.
Maybe you should find a link to how EGT works as well. I don't even know where to start with that statement.
First of all, running rich makes for COOLER EGTs.
Second, an EGT has barely any information on how hard the engine is working. It'll be higher at cruise than during a WOT run (If tuned right). It was essentially used befor the easy availability of wideband 02 sensors. You could use it as a check on fuel and timing. Increasing timing will lower EGT until you ping and then you'll get a spike in EGT. More fuel = lower egt. Yes, it is good to know if you are running super hot and need to stop your car, but it is made wholly redundant by a wideband 02. Your built in coolant temp gauge can tell you if your engine is actually overheating.
Things were a lot harder before widebands were around, and those EGT gauges that are still around are either legacy or just for decoration. In fact, my egt gauge in the supra is coming out soon to be replaced by oil pressure.

What does it matter? He earns CAN dollars, he pays gas in CAN dollars. It's not even that much difference, at all.
Maybe you should find a link to how EGT works as well. I don't even know where to start with that statement.
Maybe I won't overly generalize an answer next time by combining 3 different thought trains into one statement.
You have my sincere apology.
funnily enough podi means foot in greek. In other words, if you have a heavy foot, then not much of economy there, right?

Thanks for the details fellas. As complicated a subject as it may be, at least I know more now than I did before I asked!

Gee thanks OP. I've been on the verge of buying a Podi for quite a while and your post pushed me over the edge!
Greg/Winston - give that guy some commission!

Interesting thought. Usually I just listen to the car to not get on boost, but I guess a Podi would be a good solution as well.

To save on gas when daily driving. Save the boost for when you're having fun:-)

Depends on your ability and knowledge of course but many have done this themselves

It's pretty straightforward. I hadn't worked on cars at all before I got this one, but I didn't have any trouble installing it.
