View Full Version : (fuel pump?) noise after opening driver's door

I searched and searched...couldn't find anything.

Every once in awhile when I go to open my door (usually in the mornings) I hear this loud noise like a fuel pump, only it seems to be louder than it should be.

Pardon my ignorance but I'm still new to Audis... does the fuel pump prime itself when you open the driver's side door? If so does it need to be replaced soon? (I'm about to hit 65k)

this is normal for our cars, the pump is priming the system.

yes, that's exactly what it is, the fuel pump priming. in fact, some members recommend that you let it prime twice (by turning the key on then off, open the door, close it, then open it again) to address cold start issue in cold mornings.

I'm going to try this. I've noticed my car having cold and semi-cold start hesitation.

Thanks!

I'm going to try that as well...On some occasions my car would start and die a few seconds after on cold mornings, which prompted me to ask about the noisy fuel pump.

You don't have to open the door twice. Just cycle your key on and off a couple of times after you get in, and that will do the same thing.

I had some cold start issues and found that just allowing the pump to prime by turning the key to auxiliary and waiting a few moments before ignition was a big help.

I noticed easier starting after I had my coil packs replaced with the latest revision.
