i bought the audi 2 months ago, tottaly stock, changed everything that needed changing ...all the belts, oils, filters, cam follower, diverter valve etc etc
Than I had a few runs against a friends mkV Gti. The quattro gave me an advantage of the line and I was a bit in front up to 80 mph then he left me.
And a few days ago I noticed my car seemed to have lost some of it's power. Now the gti is MUCH faster, like 5 or 6 car lengths all the way [o_o] How do you stack up against stock GTIs ?
it's been raining last few days so I didn't have the chance the plug the vag-com and meassure boost.
CEL's come on and off randomly, car runs fine, idles fine, pulls without hesitation but it feels like it has 160 bhp and not 197.
any ideas !?

someone? anyone? if you don't know what the problem could be, at least tell me how quicker is the GTI supposed to be in a straight line :)
i know it's a noob question but can't find any youtube videos of stock vs stock

gti is lighter, fwd so less drivetrain loss= it is quicker. look up 1/4 mile times on car and driver if you are so concerned about racing.
and get chipped [up]

well the gti should pull on you regardless. they have the same power
but no quattro diff restriction. That, plus how light they are compared to our cars,
plus the automatic vs manual difference, I'm surprised your friend was behind you up to 80mph.
He should've been in front.
but if you really think somethings wrong, it may be a worn down Diverter Valve.
manual gti > Audi A4 Tip... in terms of speed of course, everything else theres no competition =]

i am getting chipped soon, but first want to know if I have a boost leak or something cause (as I said) first time I races the gti we were matched up to 80 mph or so... and a month later, after first gear he's off into the distance.
I was hoping to be faster than a gti when chipped, now I'm scared we'll be even lol

he was a LITTLE behind thanks to my good launch ...
the diverter valve, cam follower and everything else (BIG service) was done when I bought the car a month ago.

Maybe he's just discovered how to drive his MKV!
Seriously, the curb weight of a 6-speed MKV GTI is something like 3100lbs, your Automatic 2.0T A4 is more like 3600lbs, your 500 pound disadvantage, coupled to drive-train loss from quattro AND the automatic should let the GTI win every time.
My guess would be one or both of the following:
Your buddy has figured out how to launch his GTI.
His Car was very new when you originally tried to race him and his engine was still "GREEN" and not as fast as it is now.

I was going to say that also, he's getting a better launch from a standing start.
I seriously doubt that the "performance drop" in the A4 has anything to do with a blown DV. If it was a torn DV the performance would have degraded significantly and quickly from the time the DV first tore (assuming that you're still running on one with a rubber diaphragm). Just face it, our A4 is a pig with all wheel drive.

My roommate and I have the exact same mods, except for the intercooler (he has one, I don't yet), and he whips my ass consistently.
