I know there are many threads about this, but i am wanting to know if i should get it now, or wait until i save the money up for full exhaust? Since the stock oem is pretty quiet, i dunno if it would sound kinda dumb with just turbo spool, and "psssh" of the dv spacer when i get off it. Any thoughts? I have two friends, with two opinions. (neither of which have audis... lol)

^^agreed BOV's are for high school kids, audi's should remain classy.
Go buy a wrx

not to mention that its been stated over and over and over and over and over again... but its a closed system for a reason
do yourself and your car a favor and spend the money on something else..
if you wanted a car that made noise then you bought the wrong one and should have got a WRX like A3TOXX said...or even better an srt-4

I guess there's just tired of answering the same questions that can be answered by searching. Don't take it personally.

It's your car, do what you want. If you like the noise then go for it.

Ignore it. Some people tend to hold stronger opinions then others. I believe it's all about preference I have one and I love the noise although I do agree with him that it is a "Classy" car but there is no sense in using that to make your judgment. Do what you want its your car. I know my car will go through stages depending on how I feel in time but for now I like the noise so I’m going to stick with it. As for putting it on with a stock exhaust its fine. I had it on before I put my exhaust on about a month ago and it sounded fine.

ignore our advice? go for it but go ahead and read the following
The Audi turbo system is a closed loop system by which all unused boost that is spooled during off throttle and gear shifts must be re-routed within the system; it cannot be vented to the atmosphere due to the dependence on the MAF and ECU to properly read and interpret air flow dynamics within the intake tract. Therefore BOV's (Blow-Off Valves) are not used because they create a rich air/fuel condition (i.e. less air to fuel ratio) which will damage the catalytic converter, create soot on the exhaust pipes, and cause occasional misfiring (due to the purged air) which will result in ECU miscalculated timing adjustments and other errors.
For Audi closed loop turbo systems, a BPV (By-Pass Valve) or DV (Diverter Valve) is needed to recirculate the purged air and keep it within the intake tract.
so with the spacer you are letting that air out into the atmosphere...

You'll have to forgive us because this has been discussed hundreds of times for about 10 years from the 1.8t to the 2.0t FSI. These are all closed system turbos.
Ignore it. Some people tend to hold stronger opinions then others. I believe it's all about preference I have one and I love the noise although I do agree with him that it is a "Classy" car but there is no sense in using that to make your judgment. If you prefer to have the wrong part on your car that is your business. True, it is YOUR car and you can do what you want, but the fact is that people will have opinions on what you do to your car. If you can ignore other people's opinions then by all means do what you want to your car, but you will never change the fact that people will think a certain way about certain mods. It's just a fact of life. Criticism goes with the territory and you kind of just have to suck it up.
I happen to think a spacer or BOV is in bad taste (one might say "rice"). I also think it's a mod made out of ignorance, for both the modder and the people they hope to impress with a part that doesn't belong on their car. That's just *my* opinion which anyone can chose to ignore.

JMG, I totally agree with you. Then again there is a reason why people post on here and that to hear opinions. I just don’t agree with the way some people go about voicing their opinions but I don’t let it bother me people have a different way of expressing themselves as well as their car. As for rice yea I can agree with that but I know its going to come off when my Chip and HFC go on. Brad thanks for bringing that stuff to my attention I had read the previously but there was a debate going back a forth never really answering how it truly affects the car. I know its a closed system releasing it through the exhaust but I figure why not see for myself.
Final decision is up to you Bam when I added my intake which add some noise to the OEM diverter but not nearly to the level that its at currently with the spacer. You do sometimes feel a lack of boost but my car isnt leaning towards performance yet.

now, correct me if im wrong, using a bov or this spacer, the vented air would only be dumped when the throttle body's closed/closing. and when your not on the throttle, our injectors aren't firing. so if there's no gas going into the cylinders, if there's less air it shouldn't really matter. however, i can't say im an advocate of this spacer. If I were so in love the BOV sound that i felt i needed it, I'd relocate a bov to just before the throttle body. then the pressure wave generated by the closing throttle is dissipated right then and doesnt travel all the way back through the system to just before the turbo.

and also worth noting... atleast with the 1.8t a lot of the running problems were caused by the BOV's being open at idle, allowing in unmetered air. if anyones going to do anything with a bov, it's got to be a double pistion type, like the forge 004 or something similar. otherwise the stalling and sputtering associated with bovs will happen.
my b5 has the setup i just spoke of, forge 004 right after the throttle, and the ricer in me loves it. will i do it to my b7? probably not.

wow, strong feelings on this spacer deal.
i'm not gonna lie, i have the forge DV w/spacer in my car. The PO had it installed. The car has never had a problem with it, my car runs great (knock on wood) and sounds great. I know a lot of you guys think that it is "rice" to have that sound, but to me if you think that hearing a turbo release air is rice, then the same can be said for an exhaust. Yeah, you get performance gains from an exhaust, but still. It's all noise. Trust me, I am the last guy to put something "rice" on my own car.
Also, I've heard my car compared to a MKV 2.0t with only an intake, and it really isn't that much different in person.
Anyways, just really wanted to state for the record that I've had this installed in my car for probably about 35k miles and there has never been an issue with it.

TO be honest i was thinking of getting the Forge DV w/ spacer only for the sound. I know audi is a classy car but that doesn't mean we can't have a little fun with it. I like the BOV sound to be quite honest. Many AZ'er have them installed and havent really heard any issues with it. As for many people saying he should get a WRX, well a good friend of mine has an STI, and that car is real fast. 560awhp on pump gas. He prob has one of the fastest street cars on the east coast. It very clean and sounds amazing. If a car is modded correctly, whether its a civic, sti, etc.. I will give the credit that its owed. So to the OP, if you want that bov sound go for it, just make sure you add other supporting mods.

If you wanted classy, you should of went with an a6, i think the a4 models are great for modding and Im thinking about putting a spacer in, the dv get much louder after the intake and I like that sound.
Do a little more research first.

Do I love that sound? YES. Will I harm the performance of my own car to have that sound? NO. Tear out the air intake, throw in a cone filter and a heat shield. That will add a lot of sound without harming the overall system. I remember a thread a few months back where JMG really let someone have t about this same question. A lot of people feel VERY strongly about this. I would follow their opinions, being most of them are fact.

honestly my friend has the forge dv/bov splitter, its set at 50/50 and my 2.0 with just a cone and heat shield is just as loud as his 1.8...

whoever said 'if you have small hands you don't have to remove the belly pan' is sooo full of shit though.. you cant even get close. it's on the passenger side, right behind the fan near the bumper. definitely use a 1/4" ratchet, 5mm hex bit, short (~ 1.5") extension, stubby flat head screwdriver (belly pan). took me about 2 hrs with plenty of cursing. it's a tight space. could probably remove/replace in an hour now tho.
my inital thoughts post install...
kinda cool sound... but as someone said it's realllllllly sensitive and kinda unpredictable at times.. every time you let up on the gas, even if you're under 2k rpm going 15mph it'll blow off (just not as hard)..feel a bit like an ass then. thankfully, doesn't blow off when downshifting (obviously).
I wish it would only go off when you're accelerating hard... i'll probably remove it in a week or so.. it's a cool sound but its obnoxious going off EVERY time you let up on the gas even while you're just trying to maintain speed. I've been switching on cruise control when just maintaining speed to prevent it from doing it haha.
It's my understanding that the adjustable dv spacer that forge sells will not fit on the B7 A4 - is this correct? Anyone installed this? It would be nice if you could tone it down a bit.

thread hijack? And thats good input nightf0x, i was considering getting this but i do agree that I only want to hear the dv when boosting and only when boosting hard really, so to hear it all the time under all kinds of loads would be pretty gay, ricey even.
