Going to give her a wash tomorrow but here in scotland, we have had a very fine layer of volonic dust. Pretty abrasive stuff so planning on giving it a good soaking first with an unpressurised hose.

Pretty sure this is the best thing to do. Anyone agree / disagree? Have better idea?

Sounds good. You don't want that stuff rubbed on.

How's the car running with all that ash? They can kill a jet engine, I wonder how our car's handling the muck with the air filter.

Only done 20 or so miles this week so there shouldn't be a problem And the amount is dust is pretty microscopic. You only know its there if you look in line with the roof. But by the sounds of it, the stuff could still be coming down all next week.

Be very congnant to this. The area I live in had Mt St. Helens blow back in the early 80's. The very fine stuff is the worst, it will absolutely clog air filters shut. Many people around this state destroyed engines by taking their filters off when it was too cloged to get air and pulled ash into their engines. Personally, I would ge ta new filter when this is past if I were in your area, and I would drive as little as possible in the meantime.

Sounds like you're on the right track. We had a similar experience up here with Mt. Redoubt. I didn't drive until the ash fall was over, and the first thing I did was go to the local "do it yourself" wash. I rinsed from a distance, then sprayed with soap from a distance, and then risned again...then I went home to finish the job....which consisted of lots of soap. :-)

Keep in mind, volcanic ash is extremely abrasive...it's pulverized rock.

foam gun... foam gun.. foam gun...

hit that bitch with foam... let it gently slide the ash off.

Resisted getting a gun ,..........till now. Didnt think I would need one as I generally do a wash a week - but I can see the benifits of having one in the garage now.

Thanks again Alkivar and NWS4Guy
