it would not let me post in the diy part of the forum lol soo im posting it here, this is how i did it you can do it a diffrent way if you want to. first disconect your battery then take the door panles off.

http://led.linear1.org/1led.wiz thats the site to find the right resistor for the led, you can get all the stuff you need at radioshack

then your going to have to drill into the door handles just big as the led soo it fits tight in there and if you want you can put a little bit of glue in there to
http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/9875/dsc01101lo.jpg (http://img191.imageshack.us/i/dsc01101lo.jpg/)

then under the door handle theres a little hole where you can run the wires, all the door handles have the little holes for the wires to go though
http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/3656/doorhandleled.jpg (http://img177.imageshack.us/i/doorhandleled.jpg/)

heres the back of the door handle where the wires will come out
http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/6181/doorhandleledjpg2.jpg (http://img51.imageshack.us/i/doorhandleledjpg2.jpg/)

then run the wires along the door bar thing making sure that when the window rolls down the wires dont get pulled down with it. i used this metal tape it worked really good but if you dont have that i would just use duck tape should work fine
http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/4282/dsc01111l.jpg (http://img21.imageshack.us/i/dsc01111l.jpg/)

then run the wires though the rubber boot thing in the door, ok now you can run the power wire to where ever you want, but i ran mine to a switch then the fuse box and thats where i grounded it to. and thats pretty much it, its not that hard if you know how to wire a little bit, but it dose take a long time to run all the wires for all 4 doors

http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/1429/dsc01121p.jpg (http://img717.imageshack.us/i/dsc01121p.jpg/)

p.m. me if you have any questions good luck :)

I like it....would be even better if it was wired to the interior lights so it came on when you unlocked the door....unless thats what you did...?

Does anybody know what fuse this might happen to be?

What if you just tapped into the wires of one of the interior lights? The two that stand out as the easiest would be the two in the back pillars behind the rear passengers, shouldn't be too hard to get to. That way you only run two wires down the side of the car and toward the back on each side. I like the Idea of this, but I wouldn't do it unless they ONLY came on when you unlock the car/ pull the key out of the ignition.

Looks good, I did this on my SX 2.0 a few years back and a good trick is to sand the head of the LEDs flat so that the light is dispersed as not to creat hot spots. It gives it a more even look.

Very cool looking. [up]

x2 on connecting to the interior lights.

With a diode in the feed, anode pointing towards LED's you could add a switch downstream to add on demand handle lighting too.

Here is the parts list. I left my camera at my gf house so ill grab it tomorrow and upload the pics.

Radioshack LED.
Catalog No. : 276-017 - 5mm High Brightness white LED. They come in a pack of 2 and i think they are $1.79 a pack. I bought 2 extra packs just in case.

I wired them up so each LED has around 3volts each. It was a pain in the butt to get the wire thru the door grommets. Basically they all are chained together running into the #14 fuse (the one for the interior lights) i replaced it with a 15 FUSE instead of the 10 it had.

You want to technically chain the LEDs in sequence and if you want them to receive less voltage you need to throw a resistor in there.
Like so:
http://www.theledlight.com/img-tech/series101.jpg

To find out which resistor you need use this calculator http://metku.net/index.html?sect=view&n=1&path=mods/ledcalc/index_eng

I did not use a resistor, and they work fine. To drill the holes I used a 3/16 drill bit and it was just a tiny bit small so i make the hole larger with drill bit and put some silicon adhesive on the led base so it will be stable in the hole. run the wire like "iheartmya4" did. I used about 15feet of wire. I have a ton of wire left over from my old job where I installed security systems, it had the pos/neg in a 16guage shield. Make sure you solder and use heat shrink on the connections to waterproof them.

Then run the wires into the fusebox area, chain them into 1 pos, and 1 neg lead. ground the neg side to wherever there is a good source i used the bottom of the fusebox where it connects to the firewall i think. #14 fuse spliced into. Test everything.

I know this is horrible without pictures so I will edit this when i get pics, promise!

I got bored waiting and gave it a go. I found the single LEDs were not bright enough to show up on the black car so ended up taking a different route i will show you later. At the moment they are not wired to anything, but i think it will be interior lights via a relay so i can power the handles on their own without feedback lighting the int lights

Mawhitey
06-18-2010, 11:17 AM
What kind of progress you looking for dude?

I followed the OP drilling point but actually removed my handles to do it without risking catching the car. I also used larger LEDs as the black car didn't show up too well on std LEDs, so i used the SMD style ones. I then routed the wires so there was no way they would chaff
