so is the 6spd 2.0t quattro available at launch?

Anthony
01-30-2005, 07:05 PM
No, quattro won't be out for a year or so after initial launch. While I'd prefer one with quattro I don't think I can wait that long. And the GTI has done just fine for me with the FWD, so I can live without it for another few years. Doesn't rain a lot around here, nor do I go to the snow much. And, the FWD is lighter and a therefore a tad quicker. So...think I'll bit e the bullet and get another FWD.

hmm.... i really think you should enjoy the golf a little longer and wait for the quatt..

Anthony
01-30-2005, 07:20 PM
That's nice. I'm glad to hear you're concerned for me and the Golf, Chris. [:D]

I'm actually much more concerned about the engine. It's the later release of the 3.2 V6 version I am more concerned with, that may prompt a delay of purchase.

derek2079
01-30-2005, 11:51 PM
yeh may be smart to wait for quattro and the better engine but on the other hand thats the price you pay for having one of the very first cars and only cars in the us my guess is that they wont start to pick up popularity until a year or so

also what color would you get?

Anthony
01-31-2005, 12:00 AM
As I mentioned in the A3 Color Thread (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35339), I'm pretty open. My favorites are Brilliant Red, Arctic White, and Lava Grey.

Anthony,

As a FWD, I'd imagine it'd handle much like a Corrado. Hope to see it as the ND show!

Anthony
01-31-2005, 01:38 PM
I'm assuming it'll handle much like my current GTI, but better. [:D] Supposedly they worked out much of the torquesteer, and also removed any feel of turbo lag. [up]

I hope I have it by the ND Show as well! Dropped and on a set of 19"s! [;)]

Isn't the first A3 will be in FWD only?

Anthony
01-31-2005, 03:54 PM
Yes. 2.0T FWD only at first.

TheBlueMartin
01-31-2005, 08:10 PM
Anthony, arent you worried about getting a lemon? As much as I love them, Audi has a BAD reputation for spitting out some real crap the first few down the line. The first 1000 of the 4.2 S4 were nightmares, all getting either engines from broken valve springs or transmisions from bad detents. New A8s had a lot of little problems, as are the new 3.2 A6. Might want to wait a few months to order one...but thats just me.

Anthony
02-01-2005, 02:59 AM
Nope, not worried. Hell, I may end up voiding all warranties after the first few months of owning it anyway, I can't keep anything stock for too long. [;)]

Thats weird how its going to have a bigger engine than its bigger brother the A4, with a 1.8t. Whats the starting prices on these suckers???

Anthony
02-01-2005, 03:10 PM
Well the new B7 A4 with the 2.0T will be here shortly, before the A3 actually.

A3 will be priced around where the A4 is now, A4 is supposedly going to increase in price by a few grand.

neoprufrok
02-01-2005, 04:05 PM
Kinda weak to increase the price of the A4 when it's not that much better than the B6.

I gotta say it... they're overpricing the A3. Especially for this market, it needs to have value and at the A4 price it just doesn't have enough value.

Don't get me wrong - I love that car. It is definitely a possiblity when the a4 lease runs up - but damn its expensive.

AudiSnawb
02-01-2005, 05:42 PM
Yah thats not going to even compete with the Mercedes C-class coupe, or the Saab 9-2x or even the 9-3... which all start in the mid 20's... too much money for the car, but yes, yes i still love the thing :)

Anthony
02-01-2005, 07:35 PM
I still think the price on a barebones one (which of course the dealers won't really be stocking anyway) will be mid-20's.

Look for prices on all European brands to increase if the dollar continues to stay weak.

neoprufrok
02-01-2005, 07:53 PM
If its mid 20s.. I think that'll be perfect. 30s? Hmm.. that maybe a little too much.

Anthony
02-01-2005, 07:57 PM
Too much for the 3.2 V6 with DSG and quattro? I don't think so.

neoprufrok
02-01-2005, 11:09 PM
Nah, I'm talking about the base model.

Anthony
02-01-2005, 11:11 PM
Base model won't be that expensive. Fully loaded maybe...

Andy@CDesign
02-02-2005, 03:44 AM
I am sure Anthony will have something up his sleeves! If fully loaded A3 will be 30s, then my guess the S3 will be close to 40s??

The A3 is a very nice car and I am happy that AOA decided to bring it here..personally I would have loved to see the 3 door version..but the sportback is nice too.

We put in an order for the Sportback last year, so I hope ours will be in the first batch that hits our shores.

Currently the 2.0TFSI is allreayd being sold in Mexico allthough this however is the European version, the A3 2.0TFSI that is going to be sold in the US will have different hardware components on/in the engine as well as a different ECU hardware and software.

Anthony
02-02-2005, 02:08 PM
I was going to hit you up, Ben. I'm going to want some power out of that 2.0T so I am urging you to get on it! [;)]

I know the European tuners have cracked the code and are making engine hop-ups for it, so I assume the US guys should have no problem. [:)]

We are allready working on the US ECU's and should have something soon.
Also none of the European tuners is capable of flashing the ECU through the OBDII port[:D] Thats all I have to say..dont want to tip of the competition.

Anthony
02-02-2005, 08:54 PM
That's very good to hear, Ben! [:)][up]

First things will be the easy/cheap mods, like some minor body and paint work.

Will have to do suspension and wheels, not sure which yet though.

Most likely the Votex bodykit, with a bit of customization.

Oh and window tint.

Then we'll have to see what the tuners have to offer. I'd like put a larger turbo in there at some point...
