if anybody cares to try...
i managed to get my red DIS to show compass and navigation without having to briefly turn it off. i dont exactly know for sure, and to be honest i dont want to upset any coding that i may have done so i can reproduce my experiment :p i drive a A4 B6
i went into my cluster [17] and coded:
03201 (i like the seatbelt chime for some reason, and need to keep my cluster 'american' so my central unlock button continues to work)
and adaptation [10] CH [19] (or whatever adaptation channel is used to recode needle illumination) and coded
11
i was simply trying to turn the light off on my needles, and because of my OCD i don't like two memory settings for my trip computer. i and came up with this value and although i am sadly disappointed that it didn't do anything as far as my needles were concerned, i now have DIS showing compass without having to turn the RNS-E off. after restarting the car a few times (all with test drive), the nav data is still showing up so i don't think its an unrelated fluke; however, if you open any door or any other action that would cause the DIS to show something other than MPG, temp etc, it will once again require the radio to be turned off briefly. my assumption is this is related to coding a value of [0] for DIS rather than [2] for DIS-2?
can anybody confirm this little experiment? this may be just a 'bug' that has killed the other bug for a short time... we shall see...
