View Full Version : Marbles roling around

I have a 98.5 2.8 30V...Just last week I started hearing what sounds like marbles rattling around. Its more raspy when I accelerate or rev the engine when Im standing still. But when Im slowing down and gearing down in second gear it sounds like a bunch of marbles rattling around. Is my cat breaking down or maybe a piece of heat sheilding loose. I'll get under this weekend and take a look its supposed to been raining here all week. Anyone have any other ideas where I should look? As always thank you in advance.

Sounds identical to a failed CAT. High pinging at varying RPM ranges, coming from under the car. A heat shield rattle is usually a distinctively different vibration.

We carry universal replacements for a pretty good price. Click here for CAT options (http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-Quattro-V6_30v/Exhaust/Universal/Catalytic_Converter/?salesrep=CArmbruster&utm_source=audizine&utm_medium=forum&utm_content=CArmbruster&utm_campaign=postreply). If you are all stock you probably need 2.25 inch.

Thats what I was thinking.....this will give me an excuse to upgrade my exhaust....Im planning on replacing the cats w/ magnaflow cats and a magnaflow muffler.
