Hi, just wondering how easy (or hard) it is to get a noticeable improvement in sound vs the stock bose sound system.
Is it possible just to get some replacement speakers and maybe an amp and have a stereo shop do the install, or did Audi make this too difficult without spending wads of cash money? Of course I would be wanting to keep the stock nav/head unit/sirius.

You can absolutely keep your factory radio and have an aftermarket system. The important thing is how you are getting the radio to communicate with the amplifiers. The simplest and cheapest way is to do line out converters however you cant fine tune the sound for the 4 channel, they're primarily used when someone wants to add a sub amp not full system. If you want the system to sound its best I would recommending using something with an equalizer so the audio signal going into the amplifiers is the cleanest and properly tuned. You can take a look at some of the products made for OEM integration from Audiocontrol or the JL Cleansweep, even Rockford 3.sixty. I would speak to the shop you want to do the install with and see what they recommend and what they are comfortable using.

Ok cool... glad to see you mention the cleansweep and competitors. I just recently heard about those.
