Before I get flamed, I researched this topic extensively and read all articles. There seems to be mixed opinions and the thread just end abruptly without a final conclusion.

Some say the remote start is not for our car's sensitive electronics, its bad to leave the engine idling when it's cold out and some say it works perfectly.

Given the appropriate use-by not cold starting the engine or letting it idle to long...Is it alright to use a remote start. I just want to start my car two minutes before I get in the car, enough time for engine to idle to under 800rpm. And for the cool factor [:)]

i had this on a previous car (it just happened to come with the alarm system my parents made me get)
i never used it...the only time it got used was when i accidentally started the car by sitting on my keys...
i guess its useful if you want your car to be warm when you get it in but other than that i think its pointless...

I dont see it having much use, but it is kinda cool.

This all goes back to the cardinal rule of car modding

"Do what you want, not what others think is cool"

i looked into it for my 6speed. but the procedure seemed wayyy to much for the benefit. it was something like, set ebrake, keep shifter out of gear, shut off car, start car once again, take key out of ignition. get out of car. close door. i just use 2 keys instead.

It's just not the cool factor, considering that I can get a really good deal. But I hate to save a few hundreds dollars and end up spending 1K+ because my electronics is shot because of a remote starter.

It's really useful after work when I know I'm about leave and I car start the car when about to leave.

I'm with you weezy, I'm in love with the idea of remote start. Having had manual transmissions my whole life I bought my 2.0t 6A with the intent of getting a remote start. Then I heard about our HPFP problems and that our oil pumps don't produce optimal pressure at idle. I gave up on that dream (along with many others at this point).

Depends on where you live as to whether its worth it or not. I can only speak from other cars I have since we haven't bought an A4 yet but it's almost essential here in new england. Every morning you can look down the street and see half the cars idling in the drive ways. I plan to put one in the wifes A4 shortly once she finds a car she likes. I've had them on 4 of my own cars and just about everyone I know has one. None have had any problems. I had a problem with a cheap one we put in my father in laws car but it just needed a quick reprogram and it was good to go.

A few people at work have them on VW's and their all fine. Only one has a 2.0T but haven't heard of any issues with it. As far as doing it on a manual, you can have it wired so you don't need to do any procedure or anything but if you leave it in gear you'll come out to a car starting/stopping/stalling/repeat or it'll just eventually hit whatever garage or car is in front of it.

o and you can have them program the buttons to be multiple pushes or combinations so you don't start it while it's in your pocket. I had one that was single push start and it would always get started in my pocket.

Why do you need one if you live in the warm city of ATL? I got the Viper 5902 installed and it's simply the best alarm/remote start out there imo. Color screen animated remote with a mile range. I start my car in the coldest winter days and let it warm up for 10-12 minutes and the temp gage is not even past the lowest line. It at least allows the crappy heated seats to warm up by that time. The car then hits normal operating temperature within a couple minutes of driving. My GFs 08 BMW 335xi heated seats warm up in 0 degreee weather in 2 minutes so we didn't get one for her car. I paid 300 for the unit and 300 for bypass module + CAN interface + installation.

Atlanta is very warm however this winter has been harsh. However, there's mornings that I'm running late and I would like to start the car while I'm still in the house. For some reason, I always let the car idle for two minutes before I drive, no matter what temperature it is.
