I dont have it, but IMO, your probably paying mostly for the name and the fact that its carbon fiber.. not to say it wont give you performance gains. but hey if had the $300+ to spend on it i would.

Not worth it new, but worth it used!
I bought mine new because I'm very impulsive.

so what do you guys think is a "worth it" price used?
also, does it really sound that cool?

I would pay around $200-250 used. What do you mean "sound cool"? Do they make a sound?
Mr.Ridiculous
03-02-2010, 08:12 PM
yea that's what i figured too... and i don't know about the sound
some other threads about them said they sound cool
like there's a noticeable difference in hearing how much air gets sucked in... but i was gonna see if any owners noticed that too
IMO the best part of the intake is the looks. I am by far not a fan of carbon fiber, but it still looks great. Additionally, I love how it fills the gap of the engine bay. Match that with a rain tray/battery/left side cover...stunna. Would only buy it used!

ecs has one........ http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B7_A4-Quattro-2.0T/Engine/Covers/

I ordered the left side cover when i got my filler plate from ECS ^. I went to the Audi dealership down the road for the rain tray and battery cover. it was $82 for both and no shipping:)

I enjoy the sound and it looks nice too, even though mine is a little yellowed...I'd go for it, wouldn't be my first performance mod by any stretch but it accompanies a nice exhaust setup really well to make your car sound really nice all-around :)

I got mine pretty late in the mod game. Out of the box there are a ton of gaps that were unacceptable for me. I covered the sides in thermal sheets and blocked up as much of the openings as I could. It's sexy to look at, especially when it matches the bottom of the hood [evilsmile]

Got mine used too, wasn't paying $350+ for something that did very little but sound cool. It's a little yellowed, but honestly I'm not entering car shows, so it doesn't bother me much. I think I saw a bit of an increase in gas mileage, but that could be due to the fact that my stock filter needed changing. I say what others are saying...new, not worth it, used, pick it up if you have some extra cash.

The sound is unreal. You clearly hear it suck in air as well as an audible *whooosh* after you build boost. I used to drive with no radio for the first few weeks.

the carbon fiber will yellow... thats the only downfall.

i wouldn't if i were to buy it again....all u really get is the sound which in time you'll get sick of it and my mother in law hates it....i felt more power gains in k&n filter if there were any gains.

It sounds awesome, but it's unnecessary. Much better things to save your money for. I sold mine to help buy coilovers. I would put it back on in an instant for cheap, though. Just for the sound, but I will never buy a new one again.

Get a used EVOMS. It matches the existing engine bay better and doesn't turn yellow.

by the way you can get the same sound for free by performing the 'intake silencer delete' mod
hint: search for the term between the quotes
I spend most of my time with the hood of my car latched, so I wasn't about to pay 300+ for something like this

I have figured out that in this world it's all about timing and who you know....
This time is was all about timing...
My buddy bought it and his lease was coming up on his car and asked me to buy it. I said no just return it with his lease. He offered me $200 i just kep saying NO. Finally he said How much will you buy it for. I said i don't NEED this useless intake so i'll give you $50 he said if you swap your stock intake for this, it's yours for $80. I figured it was a good deal so i said yes.

oh gotchya, yea that is clutch.
btw guys... are there different brands of carbonios? or its just made by APR?
because i found a carbonio that says "AWE Tuning" on it?? (doesn't have "Carbonio" logo on edge closest to windshield)
is that just like a knockoff one or whats the deal?

Jay B7 in the Norcal classifieds has had his Carbonio up for a while now for $125 ( with a slight discoloration) [:D], Theres also another one on CL San Francisco, its been re-listed several times since December for $250 OBO.

ohh, good call. thanks for the heads-up
i'll check out the one for 125, cuz i also found one in a part out ad for 175

The "Carbonio" logo is a just a sticker. Recently they stopped including them with the sticker. Technically Carbonio is an individual company sold under APR, and when you have issues with the intake (CF fading) you contact Carbonio instead of APR.

oh, ok. that makes sense
but then what about the carbonio with AWE Tuning on it?
like would they ever be sold through AWE?

Adam, you must be smoking some gooooood shit if you think the silencer delete sounds anything near like the Carbonio! Haha. I still love you though. Carbonio is loud as shit! Silencer delete is practically the same as stock. I'll see if I can find my you tube clip.

Ok, found it. This is actually a clip of my custom exhaust, so keep in mind I was not trying to "show" the Carbonio sound, but if you skip to about 1:05 I do a pretty good fly-by where you can hear the "blow-off" sound produced by the Carbonio. The sound in person is much more impressive, and it's fun to be able to play with the sound through the throttle.

Meh, Stage 3 B5 S4's use a similar stock intake to these cars, and they have no issues, so its not really necessary. It does look cool though.

Happy owner here. It smoothed out my powerband and made the car more responsive. Its nothing huge, but there is some gain.
