Well guys here is my delema. I will soon be getting promoted in the US army to SFC (E-7). My current car is a 07 B7 Cvt. It is about maxed out powerwise besides the HPFP. I am wanting to upgrade to a more powerfull beast. All the tuning I have known is that of Euros, thanks to alot of you guys. I have been looking for a B7 S4, preferable avant but most definately in manual. The reason for this is i am wanting to acheive in area of 500 - 600 hp with supercharger and suporting mods. I am having trouble finding anything that has not been in some kind of accident according to all the car fax or high miles also dont know if it has been abused or adult driven and respected like my current car. Now to the issue..... I have been looking to buy either a Evo X or 09 STI SE. If i am unable to find my Audi what would you guys recommend as far as tuning ease and performance. Please give me intelligent reasons based on experience. It will be adult tuned and driven. All help will be appreciated. And yes when the time comes I will be selling mine for what I owe, since cant get enough on trade.

Well to start with, your not going to get 5-600 hp out of a supercharged s4 your looking closer to mid 400's. But as you know it is still a much better looking car than either of the other two your looking at. Tuning wise you can get more out of the evo on the stock turbo, but if your looking at 5-600hp again you would have to do a larger turbo and engine build. In my opinion the subie is waaay better looking inside and out.......... Stick with the audi.

Be sure you check on insurance costs of those two. I know both are high compared to our Audis generally.

I would like to stick with Audi.... But having trouble finding what i am looking for. Gonna be last car for a while till we buy a house. Wanting a CPO or from someone who truely cared for the car rather that abuse it like some are.

Finding an S4 Avant is a test of patience. There are sooooo few Avants. A sedan in a manual is much easier to find.

I disagree youll enjoy either. first of all the engine is a 2.0t but is working hard as an engine to get the hp ratings. you could get the 600 hp in the evo but that is stupid. I have a frend by me who owns a near 600hp evo 9 and the damn thingis almost allways at the tuners and mechanics getting something replaced from being under too much pressue. I think if you want to go high hp, i suggest you start with an engine that has power under no pressure. then enjoy it. second- the interior sucks in the evo. its like you were at the top of the luxury game in quality and then to slide into some plastic mobile????

I still can't justify the cost of a B7 S4...I have been looking for a while but sort of half-heatedly mainly due to the inflated prices I find all over the place. In your case you would be buying a car that, assuming your criteria of lower miles and no accident will run you at least $25k (avg. 06 with 50k miles) plus the $8500 for the SC and additional for install (if you aren't doing it yourself)....just adds up to too much IMO....especially since it sounds like you will have to use your cash for a down payment since you are breaking even.

Let that raise sink in a little bit and then decide if you still want to drop a bunch of your new money into this project. I got a something like a 35% raise and promotion last year and was in the same boat for a while...all about replacing my A4 and then I stepped back for a minute and decided to wait (B8 S4 in a year or 2). It's your money and all but I would throw that extra cash toward that future house, sell the B7, buy an older STi or EVO and have fun with it since you obviously have a hankering for more power.

here are some ways you can reach your goals

- b5 S4 with GT25's
- evo IX or X with an FP RED turbo or larger (have fun not boosting till 4,500 RPMS... its not fun)
- STI with a rotated GT35r turbo kit
- z06 corvette
- Twin Turbo 370z or g35

500 - 600 hp in an evo will require a lot of drive train upgrades, their awd system isn't tough

Having owned an Evo (Evo8), I can tell you that the experience is like no other! The car is a balls out, no hold bar, bad ass. But you will be trading in many thing you took for granted for that performance. (like trunk space, folding seats, and spine shattering stiffness, stock!) Additionally, a 500-600 HP Evo or Sti isn't really streetable, think about the turbo lag and engine noise. (that is, unless that's what you're looking for) I personally don't think a 2.0/2.5 4cyl can be a reliable daily driver when it's squeezing out 5-600 WHP. Perhaps a 6cyl turbo car is a better starting point, the 335i comes to mind. I don't know anyone has a 335 putting down 600whp, but I think its possible, and without giving up the creature comfort.

A 07 335 CPOed is around $25-28k, most of the problems (HPFP) has been dealt with at this point, it might be a better car to start from

So an STi would be more stable and in the long run require less drive train mods? Well maybe 400-500 hp would be more streetable. I dont drag race mine just rolling runs on highway. Essentialy a streetable beast that is hard pressed to be beat. I have thought about the B5. Most are either high miles, autos or already been modded. How much supporting mods would the Z need to support the twin snails?

Man I wouldn't trade the class of an Audi for anything, Its a complete package. The sti and evo are obnoxious, they will get old fast... (i.e. the stupid wing, and the rock hard suspension). C5 rs6 is my vote, it can more than meet your hp requirements, without having an idiotic car.

well good luck with the promotion. I know thats a nice jump in pay increase from E-6 to E-7. I kinda wish i was still in the Navy. One thing i miss was the paychecks! I was on my way to making E-6 but just kinda let it go since i was getting out.

I would say take your time looking for the B7 S4 avant. Im sure if you take your time and dont rush the process you will find exactly what you are looking for. It seems you are pretty set on the B7 S4 Avant anyways but dont seem to have much patience. Upgrades for the motor are starting to come out. APR is coming out with a supercharger for the 4.2 so im sure in a lil while more options will be out there. I would say go ahead and test drive the EVO X and the STI that way you can see yourself. Good luck with everything and thanks for your service.

I'm not sure about EvoX, but EvoVIII and EvoIX are beasts (having owned one). Not in terms of driving fast in a stright line, but on a track or autox. That been said, Evos aren't great daily drivers, STi is a bit better with the hatchback setup. Styling-wise both Sti and Evo needs work. Stick with Audi or get a BMW 335i

just giving you advice here.... i came from a 400 HP subaru to my A4 2.0t

- 400hp subaru pulled really well, however driving around the city i never hit boost. I normally shift at 4,000 RPMS in the city and the subaru's powerpand was from 4,200 - 7,000 RPMS. it makes for a bad city car. not to mention you WILL miss having a decent sound system and solid shutting doors, trunks, and hoods. EVO's and Subaru's are just tin boxes that are very fast. yes i loved my subaru on deserted roads, but for a DD it just sucked

- i came back to audi because i love how torquey the 2.0t is from 2,000 - 4,500 RPMS, all in all the audi is a much more fun city car. If you really want a fast car. buy the B5 audi S4 and stage 3 it!!! i advise you to stay EURO

another thing to think about is the target demographic of the STI / EVO if you're looking to buy used. Many owners buy those kinds of cars to mod them and drive them hard, it might be tough to find a clean one

also insurance will be a lot more for those cars because a lot of them get wrecked by stupid kids with fart cans on them.

so I changed my answer to B5 S4.

Stay Audi, wait to find a S4 in your price range. my buddy has a STI and for a daily driver it blows. Even when we go for our little drives around the mountains his ass hurts at the end of the day and he's deaf, meanwhile I'm enjoying my cushy seats and insulation and still could keep up.

Alright, this is why i love you guys..... gonna stay euro. Now if i was to chose B5 S4, what do i look for when looking for you. And what do i avoid? I have seen some nice ones, but super high miles, which is not to be expected since they are older. I appreciate you guys' help. You guys should all get together and be on call if someone was to jump...... you all talked me down, well made me see the light. If i drank and you guys were closer i would buy ya at least one.
