View Full Version : B7 HID Bulb Replacement

I just completed a forum search and did not turn up much. ( I'm sure there might be a lot of information) but I am slightly crunched for time. I have an HID bulb that shuts off and throws dipped headlight indicator. My car is at Audi and they have told me that the bulb is just old and shorting itself out. The replacement of course is $300 dollars. What I need to know is where can I get an OEM replacement for cheaper / or is their a great aftermarket solution out there. Also if anyone has the part number that could be useful. Through my search I saw that Phillips might make the bulb.

Thanks

70$ for a pair of 6000k D1S ( one of my OE bulb was flickering badly)
50$ for a 3000k H11 (fog) slim HID Kit
20$ for the warning cancellor

140$ when dealer charge 300$ for just one bulb ;)

Not bad of a deal, I just hope everyting will work and hold up...

Will replacing the stock bulb with a brighter bulb throw a code? (i.e. from 4300k to 8000k)

http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DDM-D1.DDM-D1SR-HID-Kit

that's the link to them (should work)

my concerns are the bi-xenon aspect obviously. and also whether they're dual beam or just low beam.

venom, if you have any other suggestions that are sure to work let me know, just really want 6000k at least.

If you have the factory bixenons then its just one bulb onside the housing. It doesnt move or tilt. Theres just a metal flap that moves when you hit your high beams. The kit youre looking at will not work with bixenons as all you would need is just bulbs.

If you have halogens then im not the person to talk to

Also i hope you meant

my mistake and thanks for the response haha. 6000k yes, just enough to have a blueish tint and not just white. i do have bi-xenons though (auto-leveling and turns with the car), would an amazon or ebay search of d1s 6000k bulbs suffice? from your experience, what would be a fair price to expect to pay as well? thanks in advance

Nope, won't work
Since you have the leveling and adaptive functions on your setup, you need to use the OEM ballast with D1S bulb, in order to conserve these functions

Go with oem specs, best light output. I put 6k and regret it.

Any of the D1S bulbs listed here. I have the Morimoto 3Five myself because i didnt have money to spend at the time and theyre fine to me. I have 6000K because the were sold out of 5000K at the time.

5k D1S morimoto bulbs here and they are perfect...nice crisp white light and definitely good light output...im sure some of the expensive osram/phillips bulbs have better light output, but for $75/pair of morimoto you cant beat them.

venom. i appreciate it. ended up ordering a pair of maxlux d1s 6000k bulbs. cost effective ($70) and a little bit longer lifespan supposedly. will find out obviously once they're in and installed.

Phil, thanks for the reply, i didn't see it previously. ended up going with some 35w d1s 6000k bulbs from maxlux. hoping to be pleased with them.

Axis, whoever owned the car prior to myself had bulbs in that were not oem rated (4300k). when one went out i went to the dealer and after getting shafted on pricing, installed a oem replacement. (my own fault for not doing my research) needless to say the bulbs didn't match up, the other bulb i'm assuming was 6000k as it had a bluish tint to it. i actually really liked the way they looked while i had them and the output was enough for me. other drivers always thought i had my brights on until i flashed mine back. they did the job for me. everyone has their own opinions though and thanks for the advice.

venom, thanks for all the input and help with this

Xenon Headlights come with a projector and take a D1S bulb.

Stock xenon headlights have a built in ballast... all you would need is the D1s bulb unless your ballast are faulty.

Stock temp is 4300k

The higher you go the more blue the light will be

Anything over 6k will reduce light output because the light is more blue, hence darker.

Halogen Headlights come with a H7 bulb.

Halogen headlights are not recommended to use aftermarket HID systems because they will blind oncoming traffic.

The light output is scattered and will not give any extra visibility over a halogen replacement light.

If you put an aftermarket HID system in your stock halogens you will be laughed at.
