or at least I'm pretty positive..

I was on the highway heading to Maine.. it was 'blizzard-like' out and I got on the gas to move around a truck. bewm. I can feel the thing blow (giggity), the car is then vibing, feels like a misfire, flashing CEL..It feels alot like the FIRST time I blew a coil on the day I took delivery of the car a year ago! (That nightmare story is curiously missing from the search database. Did everything before 12/09 get wiped out?)

Thankfully there's a rest area like 100 yards up on the right so I pull in. Pop the hood, cat is glowing.. and it's a 034 cat that I reallly don't wanna burn up. Thankfully I've only driven about 5miles (out of 230 on this trip) so I get back on the highway and decide I'm going to pull a 'u-ie' (wow am I stoned or is there no better way to write that?) between highway lanes.

1 mile up is my targeted u-turn location.. there's no real traffic in this moment so I'm able to crawl in the left lane and slide into the area between guardails. Who's hanging out on the other side of the guardrail watching traffic on the other side of the highway? Dodge charger statie. ewps.

I decide to be innocent stupid car person for a minute and pop the hood and indicate that I'm broken down.. next I hear a voice over the loud speaker "are you broken down?"

FEMALE VOICE <win>!! I can't help but smile. I know some woman cops can be difficult but <charm:enabled> and maybe she'll let me jump over to the other side of the highway and get home sooner rather than later.

Quickly "YES".. and she gets out. I immediately explain the blown coil and act like pulling into the middle area for a uturn in this situation is excusable. Fail, I can't spin around here because of the weather, and traffic on the other side of the highway. Fine.. gotta drive like 3 miles and take the nearest exit.

I end up getting a police escort home at like 40mph [:d] I was supposed to be up at Sugarloaf by now for the weekend but now I'll be lucky if I get a coil installed by noon. With my vacation plans delayed, I came home to the bars and drank until I forgot I was going to maine in the first place. So now it really hurts to be awake before 11. I took some vitamin M and that's why I'm making you bastards read this thread!

Actually this is why:
Now here's where you guys come in:
Has anyone had under-recall coils replaced at a VW dealer? Or do I have to go to an Audi dealer? There's a VW dealer right here in Noho but the Audi place is about 30 miles away.. I'm hoping NOT to have to get my car down there..

the VW place opens at 9am so I'm waiting for the service dept. to get in. Hey look writing this thread took me right up until about 8:55.. [az]

learned:

VW can give you the coils and/or do the swap - but if you're going to have it "covered" it will involve submitting everything to AOA afterward and getting reimbursed.
Audi Roadside assistance will tow you to an Audi dealer at any distance, even if you're out of warranty - but if you're going to have it "covered" it will involve submitting everything to AOA afterward and getting reimbursed.

So I chose option 2 because if it's not coils I want it to be at the Audi dealer

still waiting for tow truck. I feel like no matter the situation, tow trucks always take NO LESS than 60 minutes [headbang]

with option 1, you will get reimbursed but you'd need to get on the Audi site, download a form, fill it out and provided you fill it out correctly (I forgot to include the VIN, doh!) you should get your check in a couple of months. It sounds like you took option 2 anyway, so, hopefully, it's just the coils. let us know. judging by the length of the original post I thought you took something more potent then vitamins ;-) (gimmie some!)

i serendipitously blew a coil as i was turning onto my street.

the crazy thing is, i drive 150 miles a day commuting to and from work...yes 150 miles a day. it took over 7 hours of driving going to and from work this thursday. i didn't even try going to work yesterday, when nj got blanketed with 3 feet.

back to the story...

i knew what i was experiencing thanks to what i have read around here. called my dealer, they told me to call aoa roadside. a tow truck was here in half an hour, my car was fixed the next morning the shop was open and all 4 coils were replaced. all of this was done completely for free.

my car is still under factory warranty, but apparently if you're out of warranty, since this is a recall item, (like was mentioned above,) you should still ultimately have everything covered by audi.

I did not see him, but the service guys are cool! the guy that took my car in was a short guy with an irish accent I think, very cool guy. and there are two hot girls that work at the service counter :)

But he also lives in Western MA. I bought my car from west springfield dealer, they are also a good dealer and do good work.

STAY AWAY FROM IRA AUDI IN PEABODY or DANVERS on Rt 114, THEY SUCK
