I've read that one can tap into the wires going from the stock amp into the stock sub without requiring a high/low converter because they are already low voltage, splice on some RCA's and plug into the aftermarket subwoofer. Power I would run like normal from the battery/ground underneath the rear seat bench.

I've got an RNSe with non bose, and the sub is just hanging out in my trunk without being hooked up, I think I want to tackle it this weekend.

I don't have the radio keys to pull out the RNSe, but was just wondering if this was a good way of installing the sub. I'm terrible with electrical, but have a basic understanding of it.

Thanks!

I'm going to give this a shot today guys. I don't recall seeing the radio code in the glovebox. I'll need to get this from the dealer right? I'm going to have to unplug the battery to do the wiring

Alright, I got it all hooked up. Tapped into the stock wiring, used Pin 9 going into the stock amp as my remote turn on.

Heres my question. When the car is turned off now, the amp is still showing its light that it's turned on. Any idea why?

Seems like your remote wire that you tapped into might be a constant, I would try grabbing a fuse that tests accessory at the fusebox.

I would tap in to your fuse box and look for remote there.. I wouldn't even bother with the back amp wires..... thats just me..

Any particular fuse you recommend tapping into? Everything is done. Just need to figure out this damn remote :(

I did mine this way as well. Just hooked the speakers up to the rear outputs so that the fader will control sub volume. You definately hooked the remote up to the wrong wire. I will check when I get home for you as to which I used. It sounds good. It could always sound better, but for a free, easy install, it can't be beat.

No, I have an aftermarket amp/sub. Nothing crazy, 10" pioneer with a kenwood amp. What I did was splice RCA's onto the wires that go from the stock amp to the stock sub. I actually soldered them onto the 2 metal "bars" where the speaker wire is soldered for the stock sub speaker. These RCAs plug into the aftermarket amp. Ground I put under the rear seat bench, power I ran to the battery, and the remote wire I ran to the fuse box. It was strange, because I was certain I had the right pin, #9 on the non-bose amp, for the remote on/off. Maybe it doesnt turn off right away/I didnt give it enough chance.

Whatever, it works, I'm happy :)

This is why ...

1. you do have the correct wire ...
2. on a regular Symphony head unit it shuts the power off to the remote as soon as you turn off the head Unit ..
3. On the RNS-E when you power the Unit off it is actually still on for a whole 4 minutes if I remember correctly .. it could be a bit more ... The reason why this is Different with the RNS-E is because its a Navi Unit and the Unit keeps power on internally to reduce start up time for example if you are just getting out of the car and get back in (on/Off) it does not need to search for Navi Satelites al over again .. instead its ready to go and picks up right where you left off.
4. The reason I know this is because several techs have told me .. and i swapped out my symphony unit for a RNS-E when I had my B7 and ran into the same issue that really is not an issue .... its normal .. for Audi at least it is.

Also just a suggestion ... but with aftermarket subs you might wanna consider getting something like a sound processor Ex: Audio Control Epicenter or something simple like a MTX re-Q.... I would prob suggest the MTX re-Q since you can find it really cheap online and it makes a world of difference to the sound..
