Any idea why my glove box won't latch closed?

Haha no I removed everything and it still won't close, it seems like the mechanism works but just won't hook

check your hinges for cracks, most notably the outer/right side hinge. its a big problem with cabriolet a4's but occurs on sedans as well. also check the latch tabs to make sure the come all the way out when latched. if either of these issues are present, you need to replace the glove box door/lid. theres also a dampener/shock on the right side behind the fuse panel trim. there is an updated unit that is less firm which will prevent the hinge from cracking again, if that ends up being the source of the malfunction. hope this helps. peace.

+1 on checking for cracks...
mine is cracked on the right hinge so it makes it a little tricky to close...
if in fact it is cracked its best to shut it by putting your hand on the right lower side and it will close up tight
thats what i have to do...

Man I thought it was only in my car, but sure sounds like design issues...oh well, I just lock mine...

yeah it does make a slight cracking noise when going to shut it, very minor but that is probably the issue. Seems like they really hurried through the little things, this on top of arm rests, cup holders, feel like my cars going to fall apart haha

well mine does not make a cracking noise...you can just see it lol
The latch is known to break easily. Dealer fixed it up for me under warranty.

Yep, B6/B7 design flaw. There are about 4-6 parts on all B6/B7 cars (A4, S4, ect) that WILL 100% fail if you keep your car long enough.
I'm only at 60k on a babied, excessively maintained, B6...and I've already checked 4 of them off my list.
