So i am trying to take the ECU cover off and to get to one of the Torx bolts, you have to remove the wiper arm. Well I got the cap and nut off no problem, but now no matter how hard I pull, I cannot get the wiper arm off at all. I tried a wiper arm puller, but it doesn't seem to line up correctly. Has anyone had experience with this on our B7s or have any ideas? Any help would be very much appreciated!

spray it with WD-40. then, Pull harder.

hit it with your purse if you have to

dont run it through ecu, run it other route, save yourself the trouble.

Yeah, there are grommets near the steering column. There's no way I woulda pulled my ECU.

audi shops use a special tool to pull the wiper arm. it's a compression fit, so it'd be a bitch to get back on in the right spot.

Haha this made my morning. I will try that, but it literally won't budge.

Randy or Erocko, do you have any instructions on how to do it the other route? I was just simply going off of the instructions that came with the gauge.

That is what I followed.

Thanks Peter, but that doesn't help much as it is still going under the ECU where I am having the problem.

Try lifting the actual blade perpendicular to the windshield and pull, I have absolutely no idea why but that worked for me, of course that was after I was a complete idiot and cracked my windshield.

But it will come off without a tool, it did for me.

I had the same issue. There's no need to remove the arm. Removal is necessary only to get the cover off so u can run the boost line. If u undo the other screws u can get it open enough to get the boost line through.

Thanks for the help guys, it sounds like I should be able to finish this after work now

1/4" torx on a 1/4" ratchet to get the last screw out. Then lift up on the whole cover(straigth up) and slide out.

Or to remove the wiper arm, pull up on the arm so it bends where its supposed to, then push DOWN then pull up, rock it off slowly. Down/up/down/up etc. If you have to, give it a nice slug with a rubber mallet.

Don't know how it doesn't help as part 1 shows you how to pull the vacuum line through the wheel well. [confused]

I found this method after giving up on pulling off my wiper blade.

NO wiper removal necessary.

Correct.

I had this same issue where I believed I had to go through the ECU, but i believe that part of the instructions is ONLY for B6 cars. For B7, we can run it through the wheel well, inthrough a grommet which comes in behind the kick panel. Everything else you are doing right now is completely unnecessary, unless this is something special for the stepper versions of the gauge. If you are installing an analog gauge, you're wasting your time and risking damage to your wiper arms and ecu box for no reason.

Haha Winston I am an idiot and must have skimmend over that part, oops. I ended up getting the wiper off no problem using the method Vorsprung described and then I was able to get to the torx screw. Fairly easily, no, but I got it off and back on without damaging the ECU cover or the wiper arm. I will post up pictures tonight when I get home, it looks great and runs perfect! Thanks everyone for your help!

all i know is that i did this on my car and running it this way was very easy - AFTER you get the ecu cover off

i just pulled the wiper up, not sure how / how hard. but even after that is out, the torx is still hard as hell to get out

i just left that torx out in case i ever needed to access that again haha

but once the case is open u can open ur driver door, and see light and u can actually see the floor in your car wen looking thru the ecu box.

runnin it thru the wheel well could cause corrosion over time.

buy some liquid wrench and spray the shit out of it. I did and it came off like butter. Also dont forget to mark the angle of the wiper blade with tape on the windsheild. If you have it use a pivot angle socket wrench to the the back screw for the ECU cover. Its a PITA to be back on based on its location. Good luck.
