Do we even have this functionality?

Unfortunately the S-Tronic does not currently have the functionality for launch control. I wouldn't be surprised if a future software revision for the S-Tronic would include launch control as I believe this happened, correct me if I'm wrong, on some other Audi and VW models.

Yes this was implemented with the VW's DSG - they shipped without it and it was added later via a DSG software flash.

You guys seem to miss out on a lot, I have a B8 A4 2.0 TFSI with the 7 speed s tronic and I have launch control. I have used it a couple of times in the last week after getting the update done. With my car you place it Sports mode, with the foot on the brake hold the traction control button down until it says ESP Off. Hold the gas pedal flat, mine will rev to about 3000 rpm and sit there and away you go!

you need HPA dsg flash.

Yeah I'll follow up with Audi to see if they have a flash to activate the LC.

They don't for our transmission. The 2.0T is not the same DSG, ours is longitudinal, theirs is transverse.

Thing is,at our dealer launch here in SA there were a few S4s with LC so there has to be a way to activate it....

Are you certain? This is the first anyone has reported seeing it on a B8 S4 DSG. Maybe Audi has it about ready and is testing it out?

Yeah chatted to my salesman that attended the launch and he test drove them...I shot one of the tech guys a mail, lets see what they come back with.

when you say place the car in sports mode, i assume that means "dynamic" mode in Audi Drive select? There isn't an option on my shifter to go into sport mode. all i can is move the shifter to the left into MANUAL mode. I will try this tomorrow.

I don't have the Drive Select Option, does this place it in sports mode as such? In my car it only works in sports mode.

The engine and transmission in my car is longitudinal and as for being the same DSG I had the 37F1 transmission software update which I believe was the same as the S4 version.

my a3 with dsg has a drive, and a sport. It raises the shift points.
my S4 ads with dsg has drive and no sport. while in drive if ads is in comfort or auto it is a d in the display, if dynamic is selected in ads...then it shows an s in the display and the shift points are higher.

This does work on the GTI however I have no experience with the S-Tronic Audi S4.

"If you want to actually play with LC, there is a DSG easter egg:
How to initiate the secret DSG launch control:

1) Put foot on brake.
2) Turn car on.
3) Pull the shifter directly between "N" and "D" (little tricky)
4) Slowly release the brake...
....if you hear a "CLICK" and the car rolls, try steps1-4 again. (skip step 2)
....if you hear a "CLICK" and the car DOESN'T MOVE proceed to step 5.
5) Look at your dash for the blinking letter. (N or D will work)
6) Move shifter to "D" "S" or "+ -" (tiptronic)
7) Rev up to your desired RPM rate. (For your first attempt test it under 4k rpms then push it harder later)
8) Tap the brake (disables LC mode)
9) Take off!
10) Enjoy

I can confirm that this works.
I can confirm that my transmission works flawlessly still.
I have yet to go over 5k RPMS with this.
I take no responsibility for any damages you may cause attempting this.
It is fun."

Thanks NWS4Guy. I did not know it and it's not available in NA.

Before I bought the S4, at first, a was in the market for a solar orange TTS coupé with the two-tone interior of the same color. The wife like it allot and we were looking for something sport. At that time (August 2009) we did not know that the S4 was coming out with the TFSI3.0 / SD / S-Tronic / Torsen, and I was not a fan of the S5 with the V8 engine and I could not let my self purchase an A4 with the Tipronic 6 speed (Could not get the M6, I wanted to get wife happy!). What I knew was that the TTS was a 6 speed transversal S-Tronic / Haldex AWD. With 2 young kids (2yrs, 6 yrs) it did not fit. So the B8S4 is the best of all kind in the same car.

Since the S-Tronic 7 speed transversal transmission exist, my question would be, why isn't it available over this continent ? It would be a killer with the A4 or the A3 with the 2.0TFSI engine.

Not really sure, they do a CVT here I believe for the A4 2.0T. VW is also deploying a new 7 speed dry clutch DSG in EU, no word on when that will come this way either.

They don't for our transmission. The 2.0T is not the same DSG, ours is longitudinal, theirs is transverse.

SleeperA4 clearly states that he drives a B8 A4 S tronic, it has the same gearbox (DL501) as the B8 S4 as it uses a longitudal engine. A3 and TT however uses transverse engines and gearboxes.
I'm pretty sure I can't do this with my 2.0 S tronic, I've got to test it right away tho =) But I have a allroad and I can't deactivate my ESP, only put it in offroad mode.

Yes that is correct and while I believe it is not available in the US market it is in Australia :-)

hey sleeper I'm stunned to see LC working on an A4 2.0tfsi S-tronic as I've been looking for a DSG SW for months with no luck.

I went to my dealer to see if they have an update for the tranny but say I have the latest sw version.

When you say hold the ESP button down untill it says ESP off with the brakes on, why do you need to hold the esp button for?, just tapping it will turn off ESP

Banan

Hmm, tapping the button does only turn off ASR(Anti-Slip Regulation) right? You got to hold it down a few seconds to turn off both ASR and ESP(Electronic Stability Programme).
I'm not 100% sure, my allroad works a little bit different.

But it will leave ASR on unless you hold it down.

You are correct, I did't know until I tested a few minutes ago. Unfortunately LC did not worked for me following SleperA4 procedure, I guess I'll have to request the dealer an s-tronic sw update

Not sure for your area, US doesn't get it. There is supposedly a new DSG flash coming in June, we'll see what this brings!

Second hand from someone who had talked totheir dealer. I take it with a grain of salt though, but I know there will eventually be a release, if it has LC remains to be seen.
