Hi dudes!

Thought I'd start up a build thread of my Ibis white S4.

Mods planned are as follows:

1.Supercharged badging
2.Optics grille
3.BBS CH-R
4.H&R Suspension bits
5.Software
6.Air intake
7.DPs
8.Other cosmetic changes where necessary.

This is what she looks like now........sedate, very sedate :hi:

Just collected my optics grille earlier today. Part was imported from Audi GmbH and took about 2 weeks to arrive. If i were to convert the rate of exchange to $ the grille cost me $600

Apologies for the poor quality pic, grille is PDC ready and will be fitted sometime this week....

Congrats on the grill.. be sure to post some quality pictures up once you get the chance.. I used to use my iPhone for pictures so I finally ordered a SLR camera and I'll post a ton of new pics of my car. I have the AE black grill which looks amazing on my car.

This is the part number for guys interested in buying this from your local Audi dealer:

Yup...well then again I have a good relationship with my dealer principal. Normal pricing should be close on R6k

Your car is taking shape very nicely, I fully agree on the small changes to make it unique as there are unbelievably so many S4's here in Johannesburg. Your car is also very nicely spec'd my one is similar. Top stuff there Rabbit.

looking very nice.

I'd consider the 20x9 et40 matt black volk wheels over the bbs chr though. the matt black on ibis would be very nice. the chr's are 20s too right?

20's Lou? Are you crazy? I hope you don't drive your car into Toronto much because driving on rubber bands in T.O is a bad idea. If you live out in California maybe 20's would be ok but in our pothole marked city those 20's may not last long.

The Gemballa issue has not been resolved but in all honesty something looks dodgy about his disappearance. Last reports was that he contacted his wife to transfer 1000 000 Euro to an account here in SA. No trace of him yet....

Plenty of potholes here in SA too. Problem I find is that 19s don't fill those arches out properly on the B8....20s will look tight! Yeah there are risks associated with going bigger so i figured I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

The wheels were resprayed by a company here in South Africa(http://www.hitechmagrepairs.co.za/home.htm). I requested gunmetal/anthracite and this was the finished product.

Ok, the exact size you need would be 50cm x 30cm (Qty: 2) I bought my sheets from the local distributor for lamin-x so the info varies slightly...

The trouble with PPT is it may yellow, even with Ventureshield. One can do a full custom install to minmize the edges,
but then we just have a yellow tinged front end on a pure white car.

Beautiful rig Rabbit. I wouldn't worry too much about the film itself yellowing - the local shop here provides a lifetime guarentee that the 3M won't yellow... but the way I look at it, they need to define "lifetime". That being said, as the film picks up road grime and other particles that get embedded in it, it will dull or yellow. Try using this or something like it, designed to use on clear-bras: http://www.adamspolishes.com/p-360-adams-clear-polish.aspx or this: http://www.plexusplasticcleaner.com/about.html I've ordered the Adams - although I haven't used any of these yet, I've read in multiple forums that they work like a charm.

As soon as I lowered the car, the negative camber tucked the wheels in neatly under the arches. I have felt it rub when going over some bad ass speed bumps other than that, no rubbing.

Update: S Tronic shifter knob arrived today

Received my shift knob today and was greeted with a hair line crack on the top of the shift knob. I contacted the supplier who inturn blamed the postal service and said that I should sell the unit at half the price I paid for it :S I'm miffed because had they packaged the product accordingly I wouldn't have had the issue....

One thing that i did notice was that the shift knob was not perforated like Alex's and matches up quite nicely with my stock steering wheel.

Sigh, thought i may know somewhere selling them even cheaper from you if i was lucky lol. My dealer wanted $750+ for that single piece.

Im into black/white setup too, and I realized that 20'' in gunmetal looks much nicer than 19'' in that color T_T, and I have done turning those OEMs into darkness...

BTW, did you follow any instruction on pulling off the mirror cap? Or did you just follow ur intuition?

My intuition led me to my Audi dealer lol! I asked them kindly to remove my alu mirror caps. I bought a spare set of mirror caps which I had sprayed gloss black. They happily fitted this for me too. Next up I'm thinking of spraying the fog light grilles gloss black. This should compliment the front end quite nicely....

You are right rabbit. Just spent two hours trying to remove mirror cap. Totally a whore. Took off the bottom black part and can't remove the silver mirror cap still. And then found it nearly impossible to put black bottom back on without firstly remove the mirror cap. After 2 hrs of struggling, I gave it a pissing-off punch. And it went back on, although it has a big gap between silver cap and black bottom. FML.

Plastidip on action. I decided not to wait anymore for a member who claimed to plastidip his grill by himself a month ago.

Yes, question on spot. That's why I abandoned the plan, and decided to sell my current grill / get black optics / and then have dealer replace them for me. Now that I know, some DIY I can touch, some I can't. I can't allow the "rearview mirror" issue happen again, lol.

Nice job! How do I get the Supercharged side badging? Is there a part number and which model does it come from? Idon't really like the V6T and would desperately want to change them too.

I bought the pre-cut headlight and foglight tint from www.lamin-x.com

I didn't see any pre-cut items on Lamin-x's website under the S4 category, I'm assuming you ordered the ones on the A4 09+ side? Also, they're now showing the tail lights as pre-cut as well. Was there a reason you bought the sheet instead of the pre-cut ones for the rear?

Your car looks stunning! I'm wondering if there is any other way to order the black optics grille besides through the dealer. Of course, as most of you mentioned, vinyl/paint to the original grille works, but I'd rather keep the original as is since i'm leasing my vehicle.

Thanks for your help.

Hi dude,

When i bought the lamin-x I had no intention of doing the tails. It was a last minute decision and the sheets were available here in SA so I decided that this would be the cost effective option :-)

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Not the worst idea. I just ordered lights from superbrightled.com for my interior. I got the PYSpeed courtesy lights and license plate lights like you but opted for the superbrights for my interior for a few reasons. First, you have the option to change colors. I am actually going with red in my glove box and trunk to stay consistent with the bits of red that are already in my car at night. I also might do that with my rear map lights, not sure yet (ordered lots of different combinations to try it out) I am also experimenting with different brightnesses. I do not want my LEDs to be blinding when you open the door to my car at night. It seems like the pictures I have seen of the thunderdome ones would be that bright.

I ordered all of my lights for around $10 less than thunderdome and got cool white, red, and black light for both the front and back map lights so I did get a killer deal. Just something to consider. I can post pics as soon as everything is installed if you want to know what it looks like.

That would be great to post some pics. Also a link to the bulbs that you got. Thanks

hypersilver wheels are classy on white cars, but dark rims make it look even cooler.

Now, I'm not regretful about changing my wheels to gunmetal anymore!

good osir parts, which they did some MMI trims, There's not a single proper aftermarket MMI CF trim to match with my OEM CF trims yet :(

BTW Rabbit, I just thought, have you ever noticed that the TINT headlight tint looks a bit off under sunlight compared to the other black parts in the front? (including grille and foglight areas). The tinted headlight turns into somewhat dark purple look rather than pure black under sunlight. Is this just on my car or do you also notice this on your car?

I didn't change downpipes at all. Going from res to non res meant removing my rear silencers with quad pipes and refitting them with pipes that have no silencer boxes. I've managed to take a small vid which I'll post up later today. The s-tronic gear changes sound awesome now and the car itself sounds great!

Those mounting brackets are substantially different, gonna have to mod that thing if you want it to work?

Yeah. The top brackets will need to be 'worked'. I hope that's pretty much all....

Asked my mate to hold up the grille against the car so that we can get an idea of what it would look like....

rabbit, you have to do this..

I saw an a/s3 guy do something like this (bought a bigger grill mesh, cut it off and somehow made it fit to his outer grill)

I don't care what the process is.. you GOTTA get that grill on your car! looks awesome

I'm hoping so :-) I currently have the optics grille and after Alex sent me a comparative pic of the black vs gunmetal, i decided on the gunmetal. If i decide later to give this grille a spray job at least it will be an easy task in comparison with trying to spray it the gunmetal colour. based on the pic though, it seems to work. I need to try and take a close up pic of the grille. Its almost the same colour of my wheels.

You will need quite a bit of modification to get this to work. You can either dremel off the mounting points and swap it over to the RS5 grill. This is of course, if the curvature and the measurements of the grill itself are the same or very close. It looks like the RS5 grill is a tad bit taller, but the width seems the same. If that doesn't work, you can also cut out the inner (mesh) part and cut out the optic part, very carefully on both and then work the magic of mounting the mesh from the RS5 into your optic frame. Without seeing it in person and taking measurements and actually touching and feeling it, it's hard to say going off the pics alone the best method. You've done a great job so far, so I'm sure if it's going to work, you're going to figure out the best method how. Can't wait to scope it out after you're done!!!

Thanks Deck :-) I will let you guys know what the hiccups are as soon as we get into it. I was contemplating cutting the mounting points of the S4 grille and joining it to the RS grille especially on the top mounts. I hope this works lol!

Deck, just took a tape measure to measure the height and width of the grille. Both measure up at +-765mm width and +-435mm in height.
