View Full Version : Low Oil Pressure Warning Randomly

Hey guys, recently I've been randomly getting 'Low Oil Pressure' warning lights...

First time it happened was last weekend while I was driving about 30 miles, it came on, beeped a few times, and went off..

I got to the destination and put 2 quarts of oil in the car, and it was fine. Then yesterday my low oil pressure light came on again, and it stayed on for about 3-5 minutes and went off.. then while driving home it didnt come on.

Is this an electrical issue, oil issue, etc?

Well have you checked the oil prior before putting those two quarts in? Did you check today how much oil you have? What were the results?

It's normal in most cases, our motors love that oil..

Just checked, and my oil level is above max....

do you have a factory oil filter on the car? I used a cheap autozone oil filter in desperation once and i had this problem.

Sounds like you have a leak.

Not sure of the oil filter, the dealer changed it before I bought the car..

and what kind of leak would I have?

well there's never been any puddles, its in the driveway now, and nothing underneath..

Went to my buddies shop today, drained a little oil so it isnt over the max now.

well I scheduled an appt at the Audi dealer for thursday, hopefully they can shed some light on it.

Take it to the stealership and they will do an oil monitor test...just had one yesterday because my light kept coming on over and over too.

Ok... well got the car back.. they found nothing, tried to replicate the problem and get the warning light.. and they didnt. Although I got it twice on the way home.

They seem to think it may be due to a bad oil filter, so they suggested doing an oil change.

My car has been doing the EXACT same thing for the last 5 months. The first time I took it to the dealer and the said they couldn't find anything wrong with it other than the oil was a little high, so they took a little out. It's been doing it again now recently. I even noticed that it did it 4 separate times when I passed by a certain location even after taking different routes to get there. It is very strange, as I can't reproduce it ever it is just completely random.

Yeah, I couldnt reproduce either, I changed my oil which helped for a little bit, but I just recently installed a new DV and havent had the problem (not sure why) lol

My car finally threw a CEL at me and after taking it to Autozone it was the DV. Gonna pick up the stock DV and put that sucker in and hopefully that fixes it.

Im new to this and this sounds like my issues....the only difference is that my car shut off after the oil pressure came on. Any insight or suggestions on possibility?
