View Full Version : To Carbon Vinyl or Not?...

I've read a lot of threads on the carbon vinyl and decided to give it a try. I'd rather go with the OCARBON option but cash flow is tight right now.

I have to admit I'm pretty happy with my test, it's not perfect but not bad. I think I'm going to spend to money and do the rest of the fish scale. I think it adds a lot of contrast to a pretty boring interior color.
I love my car but have hated the platinum interior from day one. Let the opinions begin...

Here's where I got the vinyl from. Very good customer service so far.

Thanks, it's actually grey but I think it looks a lot better too.

hey how did you do the ash tray cover area so clean? that was the toughest part for me

Drilled out the glue for the strip on top first then applied the vinyl and glued the strip back in. Lining up the carbon with the shifter was a bitch. I think I just got lucky!

I think it looks great, not cheap looking at all judging by the pics. Also, it's 100% as functional as the real carbon fiber trim.

so thats carbon fiber vinyl ?

pyspeed sells carbon fiber fabric.

i wonder which is better to work with.

also - if i ever decided to do mine , i would lay painters tape down first over the OEM parts. then vinyl/fabric over that

This is a vinyl with a 3M adhesive on the back already. I think you're right, the fabric would be easier to work with but unless you take the time to do the painters tape it's not coming off.
This peels right off. It's a little harder to work with (not as pliable) but not too bad. I heated it for a second with a hair dryer for the corners.

I thought so too, ended up re-doing several pieces after removing the painter's tape. First, you can see any seams between pieces of tape. Second the tape does not do well on bends as it doesn't stretch. On top of that you get some fitment problems as you have two layers on top of stock trim.

OP - your work looks good. The only recommendation I have is if you really want the real deal go ahead and save up for it. I spent a ton of time perfecting my vinyl wrap, left it on for a couple months and bought from oCarbon bc I wanted the real deal.

I agree 100%. I will go with ocarbon one day. This doesn't come close to what Matt can do. Thanks for the input!

I was actually contemplating the same exact thing a month or two ago and was about to Vinyl wrap the trim. I lucked out and found someone who wanted my Brushed Aluminum trim and would give me a huge majority of the cost from OCarbon with their wood trim in exchange, could pass up!

Hmmm I wonder what in the end is better to do this project with. The "fabric" or the Di-Noc. My friends shop just started selling the Di-Noc stuff, maybe I will wrap my trip in that.

IMO the Di Noc is so much easier and you can reverse it with no signs of glue. I'll be doing the rest of my interior next week. Once you heat it slightly it's really pliable.
