Before I start I would like to mention that I did use the search function. I got this code about 2 weeks ago. I took the gas cap off and put it back on then reset the code. Then today it came back on again. When I checked the gas cap I didn't see any defect in it so I don't think that's whats causing it. If someone would kindly describe to me how I would go about checking my EVAP system that would be great. I read something about it being near the battery and Y line but didn't really understand it.

For one, I would get a new gas cap. They are pretty cheap, and instead of guessing it is not the problem based on a visual inspection, you can then really eliminate it. I am betting it is the gas cap, as when you said you took it off then put it back on and reset the code it stayed off for awhile.
So if it still come back after you get a new one (seriously, just do it). You have a leak somewhere else. Generally a smoke test is needed to find it. I did a quick google search for you and found this thread (no it does not apply to your car, but could probably help you understand what to do).

I had the same code a few weeks ago and it ended up being that my PCV was loose. Do you have any other codes/symptoms (high idle, etc.)?

Nope just got the P0455. I ended up going to Advance Auto Parts to get my gas cap because Audi wanted to charge me almost $60 bucks. I asked how much a EVAP test would cost and they said around $80. I would rather pay $20 more and know exactly what is wrong rather than paying $60 to guess. Hopefully the gas cap from Advance doesn't suck and solves the problem if not then I guess I'm looking at spending $80 to get it tested.

Was not that easy in my case. Check the bottom of my post:

Hope I have better luck than you and that it's just the gas cap.

I would figure out how to do a smoke test. Or take it to a dealer/indy and have them do one. Should only be a hour of labor.

I've delt with this problem for over 5months and not many shops want to work on it for some reason. But they'll keep asking if you want to buy a stage 3 turbo upgrade. How about here is $600.00... FIX MY RIDE already...
Here is what I did. I changed most of my evap hoses... welded my apr exhaust together. changed the dv to Revision "D". BSH PCV Valve... changed my oil... cleaned my air filter. Checked for leaks every where...
the best was when I didn't get the code for 2 days. Now it's back and I actually changed all Coilpacks because one failed.
the codes I'm getting is

btw, i'm taking my car to la jolla autotech for service. They seems very nice like Group 5 motorosports. I would take it to Group 5, but they're so packed with all the awesome projects they do. Troy is a great owner of the company and takes care of people.
I got my APR Chip there and all my other euro cars done there. Great people.

Just got off the phone with the dealership and they want to charge me $85 for a diagnostic and then another $85 for a smoke test. Deff not looking to spend that much unless it is last resort.

Hey I just got these codes the P0442 yesterday which I noticed when I was driving and got a somewhat clicking noise on passanger side but then after driving for mile or 2 it stoped and when I got home was when I ran the Scanner and got the small leak code I didn't think of if as much and deleted it but after deleting in on my dashboard later that night after work I had a message saying close gas cap Istoped and checked and it was shut but to make sure I took it of and back on and still had the same message and now today in the moring going to school I got another check engine light I ran the scanner not too long ago and got the P0455 with the not of (large leak) as yesterday with the P0442 said (small leak) so based on this form could anyone relate to my problem and have a possible fix? Sorry for the very long story and thanks.

Not always the purge valve....wasn't for Phil or I....but I started there since its an inexpensive part and easy to replace.

No vacuum between charcoal canister and N80....so jimmied up a little smoker and found the line severed just behind the front passenger side wheelwell. Couldn't believe the smoker worked so well.

I've replaced my gas cap and still get this code. P0455. Comes on every 2 days after reset.
Which valve is the purge valve?? There are 3 valves behind the supercharger and TB.

You are replying to a thread in the B7 section. You probrably would get more help in the C6 section.
But to answer your question... two of those solenoids control Bank 1 and Bank 2 secondary air combination valves and the third controls the Intake Manifold Runner Control Valve.
If you are looking for the Purge Valve on your 3.0T it is to the left of those three solenoids if you are looking at the motor standing in front of the bumper. Right by the throttle valve control module (throttle body).

Did you ever solve the problem? Mines doing the same exact thing and I've replaced the same items you have. Smoke test and no leaks.

Hello everyone. I recently purchased a 2008 Audi B7 A4 2.0T Quattro Tiptronic with roughly 120k miles. After a couple of days, I experienced some issues. I got a message on the dashboard that said “Close the fuel cap” and after a while of driving it went off and the check engine light went on. When I scanned the codes I got a P0455 Evap system (Gross leak). After reading some information I started with the simple fixes, erased the codes, and got a new gas cap. That didn’t solve it. After I replaced the N80 valve, erased the codes, and still had no luck. The same thing happens but now is more sporadic, sometimes I get the message but no check engine light afterward, and vice-versa. The car has also some other symptoms that I noticed, when it’s cold the rpms fluctuate especially between 1800 and 2100, it is very noticeable when you use cruise control, afterwards, the message and the light come on. When it warms up it doesn’t do it anymore or it’s not as noticeable (I did some research online and found that it could be a bad torque converter on lack of maintenance on the transmission). Another symptom is that after fill-ups it takes longer to start. The PCV has been replaced by the previous owner. My mechanic did a smoke test on the intake manifold and there were no apparent leaks. He also looked underneath (the car was not on the lift) and he said there was no apparent leaks of fuel. I don’t want to spend a lot of money diagnosing the car and wondered if this was a recurring issue that could have a simple fix. Thank you in advance!
PS: Obd is showing other codes that may be relevant P2261 Turbo boost not detected mechanical (from what I read it can be the Turbo diverter valve) I got the part and I have to get it installed.

I've been dealing with this code for a few months now.
One thing my car was doing was NOT filling up completely at the gas pump.
A friend of mine came over with some $700 tablet and scanned the car for all the codes and it straight up called out the N80 valve.
I replaced it and now I am waiting to see if the code comes back.
I also ordered a gas cap just in case.
