So i'm reading through: http://picasaweb.google.com/BJ.McGee/AudiA4FSICamFollowerInstall#5213037771411349042

and the pdf file that someone posted here.

I'm at about 49,500 and the dealer wants me to pay the 127 labor rate to check the follower and even after that i dont know if they will fix it, since they might just say that its good and not even do anything. So for a safe piece of mind i want to take it apart tonight and check it myself, then go to dealer pay them the 127 rate, let them check it and let them tell me that its bad and that they will replace it...

Question is: can i put the stock bad one back in without worrying too much?

Offcourse i think ill dip it in engine oil before puttin it back so it has some 'lubrication' < is that the right thing to do?

Also, I dont have any torque wrenches so is it fine to do it by hand until the point where i feel that its screwed in good?

Just buy the part and replace it because it is cheap. If the part is bad take it to the dealership and let them look at it and they should refund you the cost of the part. If you are doing the labor yourself you might as well just change it.

not to be ass, but that makes no sense at all... if you're gonna take it apart then just replace the follower....

I agree. Just replace it. The exception to that being if your HPFP and cam are f'ed too - in which case take several photographs and bring them to the dealer.

You can put the old one back on, unless its damaged.

I would suggest you just replace the cam follower userself though.
