Props to Lou for finding this - I know there has been much discussion on "should I get this, and is it *really* worth it"
If this cannot answer that for you, you likely do not want or need it. This addresses how it works, why it works, it's intentions, and how it applies to daily, enthusiast, and safety.

pretty interesting. would changing the suspension affect this?

death to understeer!!! yay!
Maybe I don't understand the concept fully, but it seems that this is what cone/plate LSDs have been doing for a while (putting more torque/power into the wheel that isn't slipping... i.e. the outer wheel as you three-wheel through a corner). The 10% gear reduction is new, of course, anyone have an idea if this affects the total available power delivery to the wheel, or is there some time when the diff just turns into Scotty and gives her all it's got?
I have heard the figure of 100% can be put to the outside wheel. It was 1000ish ft/lbs due to the max torque available through 1rst gear to the wheel. (from gear reduction)

damn!!! So I guess it's safe to say that the half shafts are pretty beefy

The Sport Diff is one of the most impressive aspects of the new S4 by far imho. I can feel it working every time I lay into the throttle accelerating onto my local highway access ramp. In fact when you are really pushing the car it is not even subtle; you can sense it working easily. Worth every penny and frankly the car should be standard with it.

Yes it is worth it - I can tell you that first hand since I do NOT have it. Understeer is pretty substantial without it - hoping sways will fix that.
If you're deciding, get it - no question.

Very beefy, and the 10% loss is to the outisde gearing on the diff which drives the ring the clutches grab, this differential in speed is what allows the torque to be redirected and affects only that outer ring of gear, not those hooked to the half shafts and wheels. That said, spinning extra gears and such will suffer some parasitic loss, since you cannot move mass without spending energy.

Thanks for sharing this video, great tool to show your friends and family when you explain varying the torque to the outside wheels!
