I hate people that don't know how to drive in the snow. I came 3" from this exact situation 2 nights ago. I was able to avoid it but come on people, if you don't know how to drive in the snow...don't! Good luck getting it fixed.

No airbags deployed. From what i could tell the B-piller is bent by the rear door bracket. Getting an estimate sometime today or tomorrow.

UPDATE: talked to the girls insurance co and they want to try and pull the b-piller out to where it should be. Just wanted to here what you guys have to say about that because to me that does not sound right.

02-09-2010, 11:00 AM
DUUUUUDE....if that were my car, i would want it totaled!!!! It will never drive the same way every again. If there is anyway for them to total it, I would go that route. good luck.

Quattro06
02-09-2010, 11:15 AM
Ya thats what im hoping for right know especially with them wanting to pull the b-piller out

Matt@EuropaParts
02-09-2010, 02:50 PM
I'm glad to hear you're ok, but I bet that's totaled. Look at the suspension on the side that wasn't hit...your frame is bent, or at the very least, the rear subframe is fubar'ed. Plus all the body work, and who knows what else. IDK dude, I wouldn't hold your breath.

And yeah, they can try to pull the B-pillar out, but the fact that the B-pillar is pushed in worries me.

TrboPowr
02-09-2010, 04:40 PM
The B-pillar being pushed in like that will cause many issues down the road my friend.
Having that specific portion of you frame being bent will cause all of the following:
-Improper frame alignment once they "unbend" it
-Vibrations from the subframe being affected
-Suspension vibration causing premature wear on your tires as well as poor gas mileage from the lack of smoothness in the ride
-poor safety issues (in front end collisions the energy is dissipated throughout the A and B pillars to the rear in order to absorb impact and this can be compromised)

Also, the girl's insurance seems to be wanting to take the CHEAPER way out of the situation by simply unbending the frame and saying they will fix it as new. Matter of fact here is that no frame can be "re-bent" into place and function as it did before. It has been known that many insurance companies like to unbend B-pillars on simple daily driver vehicles like say a Chevy Impala or similar because they never make it past a certain speed anyways. Your vehicle is an Audi and if they fix the "bend" it will drive like a Honda Civic, I can promise you this first hand.
It sounds like you were not at fault here and so the accomodating insurance company should take all the measures to make you happy, this means totaling the car and providing you with an equivalent replacement.
Let's use simple logic here (which insurance companies do not believe in).... You had a perfectly "un-accidented" Audi prior to this accident so why should you SETTLE for a crappy repair that will ultimately leave you with something that will only be 60-70% as stiff and reliable as before (once the frame is bent it loses most of its rigidity). You should then tell them that you dont want a car that is 60-70% as good as what it used to be, even if they fix the esthetic damage/cosmetic damage it will never be the car it once was.

Now what you should do is have them total it because you never asked for any of this BS and you should take all your aftermarket parts and transfer them to your new vehicle.
Remember, never submit to these companies, what they are doing right now (without you even knowing) is plain and simply NEGOTIATING a settlement with you. They are now hoping to settle for a quick fix at which point the girl's policy will most likely still remain a profitable one, if they can get around not totaling the car.
You need to make them feel foolish and total the vehicle.
I will repeat this, do not let them fool you, they could car less how the car ultimately performs, as long as it looks like it used to.
This is an Audi, not a Honda. Remember that my friend!

02-09-2010, 04:41 PM
Maybe due to the fact that it is her insurance paying for it, they are trying not to total it out? I would get your insurance involved. Not to have them pay for any of the work, but to have them verify what the other insurance company is doing is legit.

First off, sorry to hear about the A4 man..Down time is always the worst.

Secondly, you don't want that car back.. trust me..it will never run or feel the same way. EVER. Get them to write you a check and jump back in on another b7. That's your best bet. Keep us updated man.

Count your blessing that you are ok...
I got T-boned in my old A4... looked very similar...
they wrote her off....
trust me, you dont want them to fix it!
do what ever you can to getthem to write her off!
These cars are bult like tanks... damage doesbnt look that bad from the outside,
but once that piller is bent its game over!
good luck bro!

Thats cool that your not feeling the MTM badge no hard feelings. And from what i have read with the b-pillar being bent its not worth getting it fixed because of everything else that can go wrong. thanks for the info guys and keep it coming more the better.

UPDATE:
Estimated damage from the body shop is chiming in at $8500 consisting of two new left doors, new left quarter, possible new b-pillar, new side skirt. For the wheels two new rear ones and all new right rear suspension. Estimated time to fix is 4-6 weeks.

02-25-2010, 05:01 AM
have you called your own insurance company? you could have your insurance co total your car and then they'd go after the other ins co for repayment. your premium might go up a little, but your ins co is more likely to total the car since they know you'll continue to insure with them and they don't want to deal with a fucked-b-pillar car.

maidest
02-25-2010, 05:38 AM
^Very good idea. I think it would be worth your insurance going up slightly to have the car totaled.

Quattro06
02-25-2010, 08:11 AM
tried and they wont do it unfortunately so im stuck getting it fixed. If it does not feel the same i think ill sell it and get a new one if its possible. Only time will tell. i feel kinda confident about them fixing the car because they are a very well equipped shop: they have a laser velocity measuring tool to get the frame to line up, and some type of specialty welder to get factory perfect welds. but who know[:(][:/]

have you visited the shop to see how your car is looking? Get over there and check that shit out before you pick it up... get them to clean up any finer points on things they've finished already. Perhaps the tailights they put back in aren't lined up perfectly, or you can see variance in gaps between body sheets. Whatever it is, you don't want to see your car on friday, it looks mostly good except for a few more items you'll want them to adjust that you coulda had done already. The paint will feel nice though... on that left side that is.

Quattro06
04-06-2010, 05:43 PM
Dont worry i have been over at least once a week to check it out and when i pick it up friday ill be looking at everything very closely before i sign anything. and there will be plenty of pics when she is finished. and i cant wait to drive her my school work is becoming very hard to do with me getting her back friday.

Glad your car is getting all fixed up. Just pay close attention to every detail on the car before signing (like bring your magnifying glass).

Yeah I was going to ask if you got it done at CSN or Achbach. I have never had any car work done but my dad only takes his stuff to Achbach. I have also heard great things about CSN, actually MAG referred me to them for a couple of scratches on my hood I just havent taken it in yet.

ya used to work at mag being a wash boy and will probably do it again this summer and CSN taught me what i know about the repair process and detailing. I wanted to take it to CSN but my insurance was like sure but you have to pay for towing and well im a broke ass college kid so... not in the budget but shes looking good as of now going by this afternoon to see here after classes.

I just dont get how Carstar of Oxford can fu*k up my repair when they had the car for 2 and a half months. and what i really hate is i told the damn insurance company to total my car out and they didnt fu*king lesson to me WTF!!!!!!!!!! so what did they mess up?

Quattro06
05-30-2010, 07:24 AM
everything! the paint color does not match. the rear door "pops" when you open it and you have to force it closed. the rear quarter had a dent in the door well that goes out not in. there is dirt in a lot of the paint and over-spray on a lot of the painted parts along with a "hard lines" all over the seems. they also scratched my tint. and the big problem is the b-pillar is not where it should be on the bottom.

man, you should contact your insurance company to get this resolved, much more leeway if you get your insurance involved and point out the defects in workmanship.
