how to reprogram the key?

I've disconnected the battery to install the stereo. But now the key won't unlock and lock. I don't have the unlock button in my car so I can use that method. How do I reprogram my key?

put the key in the ignition turn it without turning on the car... do that for about 8 times and that should do it

yea you have to turn on the electronics, and there is something else you have to do, either lock the car with your key or unlock it. Something along the lines of that

Put the key in the ignition, turn it to run, and hold down the lock or unlock button for at lease three seconds. That will do it.
