so i was searching the threads and was thinking about doing the conversion but all the cars i saw that had it done were 98 and up and i have a 97. do i have to buy the full center console or can i just buy the upper half where the radio/hvac goes into? or do i have to get the second half with the armrest?
i found this for basicly 115 shipped is it good deal? http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h160/pyropoland/radio.jpghttp://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h160/pyropoland/abaee320-d15e-4480-acd6-940fc7335d7.jpg

I'm pretty sure there weren't any radio/center con. changes from 97 to 98? Midfacelift 99.5 and then facelift from there up.

As for buying the whole center con. iirc, I don't think you have to.

If you havn't found this yet, there's some good stuff in here.

Hopefully ThatA4T chimes in, he's got a 98 and has the double din done.

You'll need the whole sha-bang...center console, radio, cage, ashtray, shift plate/w boot, and lower console/w armrest. Then you'll have to wire everything up.

I did this on my 99.5 search my name... Not the easiest task in the world but worth it! I got whole center console like the photo you show for i think $100 shipped but that included ashtray and shifter surround which you DO need.

correct! you need everything! whole center console and front part of dash, radio, cage, ash tray, shift plate w/ boot, almost all of the wiring is different so you will have to splice on the newer style plug for each item. and also have to splice in new wires for a few items. its an incredibly large project haha way bigger than i thought! pm me if you want more info (notice the gallon size zip lock bag of wires)

Ok so I have a 99 A4 pre-facelift. I just bought an entire center console from a 2000 a4 and want to swap it in my 99. When looking at the foglight switches, the wires seem to match except for maybe one or 2. If i remember correctly, the front fog light switch on the old switch has 1 or 2 more wires than the new switch. What do I do with those wires? The hazard switch I figured out how to use my old switch. And how do I get the hvac unit to illuminate? I've read that I'm supposed to run 1 wire to a certain pin on one of the harnesses. Does anyone know which pin? As far as the rear defrost goes, I also read Im supposed to take the thickest wire from the old harness and run it to the connector on the back of the hvac unit. Any more info on this?

Well i was able to figure out the hazard switch, hvac illumination and the rear defroster according to that link. However, now im stuck on the front and rear fog light switches. I already have the fog light control module and the pig tails from the new style
switches. I just can't figure out how to wire them all together. Do the new style switches wire directly to the fog light module and then from there the module wires in to the old fog light connectors? How do I know which wire goes to which pin? Anyone
have any ideas? I'll paypal $20 to the person that can provide me with detailed instructions on how to wire the fogs!!! My car is sitting there until this is done!!!!!!!!!!!

ah man now your tempting me to go tear into mine and look im pretty sure everything just wired directly all of mine were color matched wires... i wish i could get a hold of the guy who sold me all of my stuff for the sawp (since he had done the swap perviously and had all of the wires ready to go im not sure exactly what he did) but im 99% sure he had the relay wired to the rest of the wires that connected it to the switch directly and color matched)
